Started my 21 PB this morning using app. Got into truck hit start and no power steering. Turned off and back on still no power steering. Turn on and off again and hit gas to start motor and power steering went back on. I know the ICE was running when I remotely started so not sure what caused the issue. Used the truck multiple times today without issue. No warning lights on dashboard or any message in the app. I’ll keep any eyes on it maybe just a gremlin. I’ll take it to dealer if it continues. The truck has not caused me any major issues just hit 3 yrs and 21k miles. Just seeing if anyone else experienced this.

The same has happened twice with my 2021 - currently at 42,000 miles.

Happened to me a few times now, 2022 around 34000. Figured it was the cold weather in WI, but happened even above 32°.

Yes I have also, but I figured it was because it's been very cold out, and I always leave my steering wheel turned to the left when I park it. So I stopped doing that and it's been OK so far.

Happened once to me this winter so far. '21 PB Limited, 40k miles. Parked in the garage with wheel turned. Used remote start for about 10 minutes. Pushed start button, put in in gear and rolled about a foot or two and started working. Hasn't happened since. Is the PS pump electric? Or belt driven?

I haven't ever encountered this problem "yet" with my 21 5.0. It looks like it could it be a software issue?

All of the F-150's have a electric power steering thats embedded in the steering rack.

I’ve possibly had this issue with my 21 5.0 a few times this winter. Didn’t really feel like no power steering as I’ve driven cars without before but felt like the electric assist wasn’t working. Happened during a few consecutive drives and then went away. My truck sits outside in my driveway

Mine sits outside in the driveway as well it was 0° here the other morning when I left for work and I have 32k miles on the truck.

‘21 Limited with 95k miles and that just happened to me on Friday morning.

Same exact scenario.

Turned the truck off and on a couple times and then no issues.

We'll that throws out my theory of it being a PB only problem. ?

Yea idk the exact temp when it happened to me but it was cold. I only have 42k on mine. Just seemed like it took more effort to turn the wheel at slow speed

Is it motor driven steering rack or motor driven pump with hyd fluid? I thought they are motor driven rack through gearing.

I had this issue a few days ago, but it freed up after a few seconds.

Temps were in the teens.

Ford's official name for the system is EPAS "electric power assisted steering", the rack is a sealed unit that contains a electric drive motor that drives a small belt which turns a ball screw nut on the steering rack gear. The system is filled with lubricant, but it is not hydrauliclly driven. Steering input is sensed with torque sensors, and that input is sent to the PSCM "power steering control module" also embedded in the sealed unit rack. The PSCM then commands movement of the electric motor based on that input. Because its a rack and pinoin you can always control the steering in the event of assist failure. But the system is highly reliant on computer input from the PSCM, if the PSCM glitches you wont have assisted steering. It's most likely the reason the steering system is wigging out on these trucks and then magically returns to normal after restarting the truck.

It's because of this system that things like Blue cruise, lane centering, trailer backing, and parking system are even possible, the PSCM can be completely operated by the vehicles other electronic systems without any driver input.

Thanks for the info @Big Dog Daddy . This is how I understood the electric assist steering worked.
