Well, I joined the Ford about a month ago after taking an 8 year hiatus to go to GM. I recently had 2020 AT4 with the 3.0 Duramax and overall was a great truck, but the overall appearance inside and the tech brought me to Ford.
I bought my truck on 12/6/21 and I am currently sitting at 1,027 miles. About 2 weeks ago, I started to experience a popping noise (intermittent) with the wheel turned left either going around a culdesac or turning into my driveway. This all started after a tire rotation (that’s another story).
Three days ago I pulled out into traffic and got it up to 4100 rpm and heard a loud pop, a good thud, and then a grinding noise. Up pops a service engine soon wrench, so I pull over to look underneath - all clear. Turn the truck off, start it back up and it runs fine another 14 miles home - no noise or odd feelings at all. Next morning, taking my daughter to school and hear a slight grinding, but nothing significant. I shifted into 4H for about a mile at 25mph and back to 2, noise disappeared upon changing to 4A. Dropped my kid off and took the truck to Ford. Try calling the rep a few times and finally get him at closing and he tells me “oh yeah they took it out and it was huckin and buckin and I’m surprised the tech even made it back” and in the next breath says it will be a while before they can tear it down and good luck ever getting a loaner from them. I call today and he’s now telling me that they’re waiting for the head Ford engineers to tell them what to do and it could be weeks before I see the truck again.
So, this is fun. Loving the truck so far apart from this, but more so hating the service rep.
After looking around the forum, I have suggested they look at the IWE as it seemed possible it’s 4wd engaging when it shouldn’t and causing these noises. I was quickly brushed off and told he will deal with it.
