25 Tundra Limited TRD offroad hybrid
Hey everyone. So I’ve got a 2025 Tundra limited trd off-road with the iforce max (hybrid). As many of you know Toyota recently expanded the recall to February 2024 builds (not including hybrids). My assumption is that Toyota will extend it AGAIN to 2025 builds. Currently, the hybrids are not a part of the safety recall due to it allegedly having “motive power” from the electric motor to move the truck off the road if the engine gives out (total BS). If the engine gives out on a hybrid, all Toyota is doing right now is a short block replacement AKA tearing apart your whole engine and putting new parts with old parts which I say hell no. Long story short, I’m looking at purchasing a F150 with the 5.0 in 2027 (assuming Toyota still doesn’t include the hybrids by then). How do you guys like the 5.0 V8? I’m just hoping they don’t add a gasoline particulate filter to the 5.0’s in 2027. Thanks!

5.0 has been great. Plenty of power, good economy for highway driving. Has been very reliable for me 70k miles.
I wouldn't hesitate.

The 5.0 is great. Tons of power, very reliable, great fuel mileage and sounds amazing. Do yourself a favor and get the 3.73 gears in the truck you choose.

I have a 21 5.0 and I picked it up at 77,000. Coming from 3 ecoboosts, this engine feels more refined. Its consistent power and fuel mileage is fantastic. Unfortunately they took away e85 on the 24 model, it makes the truck even better.

if you tow, it does surprisingly well with that also. You just need to learn this engine and know where it’s power comes from, which is higher in the RPM range. It has an intoxicating sound that may or may not affect your fuel mileage trying to please inner teenager. 😂😂 would 100% recommend this engine to anyone.

I own both a 2024 SuperCab with 5.0 and 3.31 gears and a 2025 regular cab 2.7 with 3.55 gears. The 5.0 is arguably Fords most reliable truck engine of the bunch (F150) and with my truck its also surprisingly quick when you ask it to roar to life. I absolutely love that it revs to nearly 7k rpm and it sounds fantastic doing that too. It also gets surprisingly good gas mileage achieving 20-21 around town if you don't put your foot into it and easily gets 25+ on the highway if you keep the speed below 72 mph.

Don't be afraid of the 2.7 Ecooboost either as that engine is built like a diesel (literally) and packs a punch.. It is the more civilized and quieter engine with very good low end grunt once the turbos spool up which happens quickly and it nearly matches the V8 in useable power. It also gets better fuel mileage by about 1 mpg on average.

I owned a 2001 Tundra bought new in 2000 and back then Toyotas quality was top notch. I bet now Fords engines are better but ford still needs to refine body integrity as the aluminum panels sometimes don't fit together that well. Overall though its a good truck.

2021 F150 5.0L owned sine new. I have a 127K miles and have not had any issues. I changed the plugs at 101k miles and they looked good. I posted a thread with the photos of my plugs in the 5.0 Forum when I did them. Great gas mileage on highway 22-23 and city I get 16-17mpg. Combined about 19.5mpg. I would not hesitate to put it into a new build.

This is my 5th F150. I love the 5.0 and find it a worthy successor to the previous V8's. And a whole bunch more pleasant on long trips than my 3.5L and 2.7L Ecoboost turbo V6's. Which sound and groan like a UPS truck on long highway hills.

Plenty of power and a nice flat torque curve. I have the 3.73 gears and find it to be a great match.

Here is how I'd put it. I much prefer the V8's for traveling as I am less fatigued after a 1350 mile day. When I tow, the V8 gets markedly better MPG than the 3.5L Ecoboost. And while the 5.0 will run higher RPM towing on hills, it is silky smooth. Unlike the Ecoboost where the groaning exhaust note and low frequency vibration annoy me.

I can attest to this, pulled our 6500 pound camper this summer and that engine made its glorious noises, my wife is usually very sensitive to road and engine noise, surprisingly it didn’t affect her. Had a 13 ecoboost and the drone got to her even before I put an exhaust on. Maybe she just likes the v8 noises better. 😂😂

I had a 21 XLT 5.0 and miss it. I have a Raptor now and don't get me wrong, the Raptor is better in just about every way except for MPG. I loved the sound of my 5.0 with a corsa exhaust though, and with how the economy is right now, I could use the money from trading in the equity on my Raptor. The only truck I wouldn't hate downgrading to right now is a 5.0 F-150.

Have you looked at the Kevlar oil pump belt by chance? I think that’s my only concern with this engine, but haven’t really heard of any stories of the belt breaking.

Read the hundreds of posts by people with battery problems with the Ford vehicles. I dealt with them on my 2022 F-150 for 3 years and after replacing the battery for the forth time I traded it in for a Chevy truck. So very nice to have a truck that starts in the morning and no need to use a battery charger before being able to use the truck.

The 2.7 has been using the same Kevlar style belt since 2015 and no widespread issues. Only one I have seen was one with like 315,000 miles and poor maintenance. But I have dug that deep either. I don’t think it’s an issue as there are many people running force induction without issues.
