I'm about 24 hours away from placing an order with Granger for a new F-150. It'll be my first Ford and my first time ordering a vehicle instead of buying something off the lot. Before I do, I'd like to run my plan by you fine folk, and see if there's any "gotchas" that I missed.

  • Buy a RCSB XLT Mid and have it shipped to my door
  • Grab a 12" radio screen upgrade from Infotainment (center console version)
  • Find a used center console, seats, door cards, heated steering wheel, and dash panels from a Platinum and install them.

Any reason this wouldn't work to give me a nicer RCSB than Ford's willing to offer?

I've seen both the larger screen and a center console swapped into a regular cab. Sourcing the rest of it will be your biggest battle which I'm willing to bet you'll be fighting both your wallet and the various parts supply houses to get it done. Not trying to discourage you as others have done it.

But I'm swapping out my Regular cab for a 4 supercrew I ordered at granger for more leg room. Make sure you get acquainted with the regular cab before you pull the trigger. It was awesome to me until it wasn't.

What didn't you like about the regular cab?

Is this Granger dealer located in Iowa, and why do so many people go through them?

Do they offer serious savings over ordering from your local dealer?

Yup, Iowa. In my case, it's about $1600 cheaper than local. Also, my local dealer is a right turd and will get as little of my money as possible.

I owned a '93 Nissan hardbody single cab and you can only move the seatback and/or recline so much. Not for long trips unless you're young imo lol.

See, that's something I hadn't considered - Does having a Regular Cab reduce the amount of room the captain's chair can go back? If it's all the way back, does it need to be 90* upright? I'm 6'2" with a long inseam. I WANT room!

And sadly, there's no regular cabs on the lots around here for me to test it out.

I know the regular cab officially has the same maximum front legroom as the other two models, 43.9 in., but I’ve always felt the seat back didn’t move back as far or something and I felt constrained too. Then again, I got a bench seat because the console intrudes too much into my legroom, so maybe I’m just fussy, but I suspect it’s the constrained seat angle.

My previous car was a coupe. Super long doors and I was used to sitting as if I were in a bathtub. I set the seat position one day and never moved it again for 10 years. Loved it. I drive commercial trucks and machinery day and night so I figured I'd be ok with a regular cab.

I have never found a seat/pedal position combination more fatiguing than my current truck. I'm constantly moving the seat up, back, tilting, adjusting the lumbar bag etc etc. Fortunately I love everything else about the truck so I'm sticking with another F-150 but whoever designed the seating position could stand to learn a thing or two about ergonomics.

I also have a bad right knee so go ahead and factor that in. I don't want to sound too discouraging, I simply want you to love what you get.

Yes. This exactly. If you get the seat frame moved all the way back you're sitting dead straight up. Good for some, but when I'm going on a 7 hour camping trip with my wife and little dog I'm the only one antsy. Edit: FYI: I'm 6'2 285lbs I'm relatively full size lol

By me even when ordering a truck they offered MSRP. Most dealers where I am are still charging over MSRP for trucks on the lot + all the BS fees on top of it. Grangers price was $6100 better than the dealers by me...

I am just wondering if a SCSB would work for you better than a RCSB? I am 6' 290lbs and have lots of room in my Scab. I think you can get some of the extras you want cheaper and easier added to the Scab. Other than the heated wheel, most of what you want is on the high package. And all of it would be under warranty.

Just my thoughts.

If only any other truck would fit in my garage... I've got 210" depth to work with. Even a little Tacoma is too big. I'd love to just buy a higher trim truck with all the niceties I want, but unfortunately that's not an option.

When ordered my 2022 Lariat PB 502a I ordered it in January 2022 (during a factory sale) and picked it up at Granger the end of December 2022. All the dealers around me were strickly MSRP and told me the Granger deal was a scam and I would be stupid not to order it from them. I choose stupidity over flushing cash. :)

During my wait Ford had 2 price increases. Now with the Granger discount 3% under invoice, $2k worth of factory rebates, Farm Bureau coupon, locked in price protection, I paid $59,800 for a truck with a $73k window sticker (MSRP). I also got 0% for 36 months.

If you are looking for a new Ford, and the local guys are MSRP or close to that, check with Granger. They will give you a deal you will probably not want to pass up.

While you're at it, check out the Ford extended warranty from Granger while you're at it, if that interests you.

Wow Nice! My wife is bound and determined to get a WildTrak Bronco. Perhaps Granger can help take the sting out just a bit lol. We're a long way from Iowa now. I worked in Moline, Il. back in the day so I'm not unfamiliar with great midwest :)
