I am just wondering if a SCSB would work for you better than a RCSB? I am 6' 290lbs and have lots of room in my Scab. I think you can get some of the extras you want cheaper and easier added to the Scab. Other than the heated wheel, most of what you want is on the high package. And all of it would be under warranty.

Just my thoughts.
Also
If only any other truck would fit in my garage... I've got 210" depth to work with. Even a little Tacoma is too big. I'd love to just buy a higher trim truck with all the niceties I want, but unfortunately that's not an option.
In that case, your plan is likely your best option. If you fit comfortably in the truck I say go for it. With an xlt mid you can get a really decent amount of options.

Does the XLT Mid steering wheel tilt/telescope? Might need to add that to my list, too.

I've spent a little time familiarizing myself with the truck builder and the options available on the regular cab. Id suggest getting every option you can. Power pedals, tow package, adaptive cruise control, 360 cameras etc. The more options you have the easier it'll be to retrofit the things you want after the fact. My 2 cents.

I'm about 24 hours away from placing an order with Granger for a new F-150. It'll be my first Ford and my first time ordering a vehicle instead of buying something off the lot. Before I do, I'd like to run my plan by you fine folk, and see if there's any "gotchas" that I missed.

  • Buy a RCSB XLT Mid and have it shipped to my door
I bought from Chip Giles at Granger, my first ever 'ordered to spec' vehicle, it was a superb buying experience with absolutely no regrets, I'm now a huge fan of that dealership.

But I think you'll learn when you talk to Granger that the truck must be delivered from Ford to their dealership and any further shipping to your door will require a 3rd-party shipping arrangement. For me in Texas the quick Southwest Airlines fly-and-drive approach was a much better solution in terms of both cost and convenience with no worries about my brand-new never-seen truck in the hands of a 3rd party transporter.

  • Find a used center console, seats, door cards, heated steering wheel, and dash panels from a Platinum and install them.

Any reason this wouldn't work to give me a nicer RCSB than Ford's willing to offer?
Do your very diligent research up front before assuming anything. You may well find that the XLT mid lacks certain modules and harness wiring to support things like Platinum seats (e.g a different "door module" with associated wiring). It can be very surprising to learn how many apparently 'unrelated' components actually do relate to various features and are required for their operation.

So how do you get the knowledge needed to pull this off? IMO you spend up-front for the full Motorcraft service manual on CD-ROM from Helm and study that in detail, especially the wiring diagrams. You're gonna need it to pull-off the mods you outline and if you balk at the price of that invaluable resource then you're certainly not being realistic about the total dollars you're gonna spend to realize your scheme.

I'm not even touching on the various module re-programming challenges likely involved, and not all of that may be achievable with FORScan, there's a good likelihood you'll need the much more expensive FDRS with the wherewithal to use it.

IMO you're setting yourself up with high expectations likely fraught with 'gotchyas' in the long run. Not to say it can't be done but IMO the expense and effort will be much greater than you likely imagine.

Reality checks can be a bear.

Good Luck.

I'm used to using scanned PDFs of old service manuals for my car mods. Granted, I'm used to old cars. My daily driver is older than I am!

Is Helm a reputable place to purchase a legitimate copy of the official service manual? If so, that may well be the first purchase I make for the new truck.

Also, I just sent out an email to Chip saying, "Let's do this." Looking forward to the process!

Helm is Ford's only official vendor for genuine and absolutely complete Service info on CDROM - buy with confidence.

What you get is exactly the same as what dealers see, exactly the same as what you see when you subscribe to the contently updated Motorcraft Subscription Service. The interactive interface and hyperlinking are simply priceless - it's very user-friendly once you get the hang of it.

The obvious difference being that the CDROM is 'frozen' on the date of production whereas dealers and the online Motorcraft subscription is constantly updated.

This thread may be of interest - I have both, bottom line wish I'd saved the bucks spent on the non-Helm product, you will certainly need a manual with info for more than just your RCSB VIN and that's what you'll get from Helm.

Excellent news. Order placed.

edit: Deposit sent to Granger. Customer Agreement and "PA" signed, whatever that is. Exciting time ahead!

I was stuck with a SCrew because I wanted the hybrid, but I loved my old regular cab Sierra SLE K1500. I THINK that a supercab may be an ideal middle ground because the interior space is VERY EASY TO BECOME ACCUSTOMED TO, even with a camper shell.

I just had a look and the RCSB for the 2021's is 209.1 inches. That is a tight fit.

You could always rent a Super Cab F 150 and get the wife to back it into the garage - then your new one would fit.... :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::LOL::LOL::ROFLMAO::LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL::ROFLMAO:

See, that's something I hadn't considered - Does having a Regular Cab reduce the amount of room the captain's chair can go back? If it's all the way back, does it need to be 90* upright? I'm 6'2" with a long inseam. I WANT room!

And sadly, there's no regular cabs on the lots around here for me to test it out.
I have what you are probably ordering, A single cab with just about as many options as you can get. Although I didn't get the fx4 package. (no 4 wheeling for me, outgrew)

With my seat back all the way I can still tilt the back to a comfortable position. If you knew me you would understand why that was a necessity. A lot of big guys on here but my as$#!ole saying is they are half the man I am. lol
Before this I had a bronco ordered locally. I fit in one but it wasn't comfortable and ford kept sending me coupons for the f150 so I saved an additional $3500 with pco's. For my 22 the sticker was $47,585. I don't remember exactly how much I saved now but it was substantially less than that when I was done. They are quite a bit more now with my options.
Don't believe the build and price. It is still wrong. You can't get the remote release tailgate no matter what it says.
Make sure you order the power pedals even though you will only use once to get them the right distance. If I had to do it over I would skip that bed package that you have to get for bed lights. It makes the tailgate heavy with the step that I weigh too much to use anyway. Don't forget the viscous dampener for the tailgate. And one of the things I use the most is the extra plastic cupholder that mounts in the middle seat bottom and sticks out onto the hump. Years ago that used to be a free item. Not anymore and I see they went up in price. I usually have my center seat back up so I don't get to use the holders in it. Up gives me more room to access the seatbelt which for a fat person can be a pain sometimes. Get extenders. Also takes care of the annoying beeping if you have a big dog or set something in the passenger seat that weighs enough to make it think someone is sitting there. Build and price is difficult still. Make sure you get the adaptive cruise if you can. Unless you plan on lifting or something then don't. My truck doesn't even see a gravel road and the lane centering is great! NOT the lane keeping but the lane centering where it drives itself down the middle of the lane. If you want to get rid of that active air dam then order the snow plow prep. That removes the air dam. A buddy ordered that option just to load up for resale and then found out it removes that airdam.
Just go through it all with Chip. He knows what he is doing. Some times he can be abrupt but for the savings I can put up with it.

Single cab, almost every option (No FX4, snow plow, or bed utility package). Very similar indeed!

No remote release tailgate makes me sad. I didn't really care about that functionality, I just wanted the push-button start and "leave the keyfob in your pocket" bit. Looks like another thing I need to retrofit.

Got 'em.

This is something I was looking at - You buy the shock from Ford and install it behind the taillight, right? Or is it an option you can check during the build?

I intend to swap in a console a few months in. It's just my wife and I, and neither of us would need seatbelt extenders.

Is that included in Ford CoPilot 360 2.0 or is it in BlueCruise? (Didn't think I could get BlueCruise in a RCSB.)

Yeah. He's been curt, but polite, professional, and knowledgeable. I get it. When you deal with the kind of volume he does, you ain't got time to become friends with everybody who buys from you - Get to know them, their plans for the truck, etc. He answers your questions, replies back when he says he's gonna, and doesn't take forever to do it. Zero regrets so far going through him.

You can get the remote start. That was a must have for me. It just won't have the remote release tailgate on it.
I ordered the dampener with chip and they installed it before I picked up the truck. Never did see a charge for install but they gave me the factory part that had to be switched out for the dampener. (part of the hinge)

If you don't have your vin yet you can add to your order.

The adaptive is part of the co-pilot 360 2.0. When in lane centering it will flash on the dash to keep hands on the wheel which will get annoying because I have a light touch on the wheel so it does that a lot unless you get in the habit of giving it a minute jiggle every so often. Also there is another way around that but you are on your own for finding that. (probably illegal or at best your insurance would really frown if they found out)

I also like the speed limit sign reading. I don't know if that is part of the adaptive or not but it's nice that I can set the cruise then it changes speed when the limits do. Plus you can put in a fudge factor. Sign says 55 I have mine set to go 3 over limit. 58. At first I didn't know how to do it and I had it set at 18 over. It was a little freaky on interstate when I was behind a guy going slower so the adaptive adjusted to follow him then he exited and all of a sudden my truck took off wanting to get up to speed! Which was 88 mph after the 18 over setting.

Remote start doesn't matter all that much to me - perhaps because I've never used it. Always had stick shift cars before this. Are you saying that I can get the push-button start, though? Like, the little red button in place of the key hole inside the cab? 'Cause that, I want.

Got my VIN at 6:46 this morning.

The adaptive is part of the co-pilot 360 2.0.
Awesome. I think that's a standard part of the 301A package. Definitely have it.

Is this Granger dealer located in Iowa, and why do so many people go through them?

Do they offer serious savings over ordering from your local dealer?
To echo what other have said the savings was thousands for me. I'll have to go back and look but I bought durring the peak of dealers adding mark ups so it was a lot of money. Plus Granger is the easiest dealership to deal with. When I left I thought something was wrong cause it was too easy. Took like 15 mins max cause I did everything via esign beforehand. Plus it costs nothing but a few mins to get a quote on the exact truck you want. As long as you're willing to wait I've not found a competitive deal.
