Hello all,

I am interested in knowing what is the average Mileage on the Odometer of your truck upon taking delivery. Mine is in transit and already shows 107 miles!!! Dearborn built, spotted at Infamous Ramp 51 in Flat Rock during short Chip Hold on FordPass. Now Location tracking is disabled, so I can’t see where is it in Transit. Ford Tracker confirms that it is built and estimated delivery at dealer is between Sep25-Oct01. Inputs will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

A former Ford engineer on the 5G Ranger forums explained this when the same question came up. He said There are a couple reasons for this. The most common is that random vehicles of a production run are selected as they roll off the line for short road tests on the closed test track to look for any anomalies in drivetrain and what-not. Also when stored in the lots the vehicles are not left in one place rather are often moved around quite a bit as the inventory numbers change from week to week. This usually accounts for vehicles with 40-50 miles as well as 100-150 miles depending on if it was road tested or not.

Oh and mine had 42 miles on it when I bought it.

Considering my drive home from the dealer was 1800 miles, the 58 on the clock didn't seem significant even though it was 3-4 times what was on any other of the dozen or so new Ford vehicles I've owned had.

Honestly, Ford should probably consider offering to drive vehicles from the factory to the dealer. I suspect many would trade a few hundred miles to get the truck 2 months faster.

Yes. I was able to get FordPass activated and see truck location in real time. After recent 3.5.2 OTA update, it was disabled and again someone has to be physically inside the truck to reactivate Location Tracking. Still few other things like mileage is updated.

There's 2 main ways, in my experience, in which they can accumulate a few miles:

1) The drive you referred to is called the 20 mile drive (at least at KTP it is) and this is used to spot check vehicles for major issues during an extended drive

2) M10 vehicles. These are vehicles that are driven by management as kind of an overnight test drive, again checking for production issues. But part of the requirement is that the individual doing the drive lives no more than 60 miles from the plant.

So the mileage accumulation could have been from either. I wouldn't be too concerned unless there was more than probably 120 miles on it when being delivered to the dealership. But even then, thats not that many vs how much you will put on during the duration of vehicle ownership.

EDIT: I was quoting you @Porpoise Hork to add to your input, but mostly responding to the OP

6.8 miles... There is a way to identify the railroad car your truck is on. You can then follow that railroad car via that railroad's system. I'll see if I can reconstruct how I did that.

Truck is being shipped to Ontario, Canada via Convoy: Cassens (CS59). I was able to input on cassens.com but now “Unable to find the given VIN / Dealer code. Please check and try again” message pops up with Dealer Code/VIN entry. I guess I have to wait till Last Mile Delivery happens. Thanks

Mine came with a note saying 40 something miles were part of a QA thing done to random vehicles off the line.
