Wondering if anyone out there has had any success with a squirrel deterrent. 3rd time since February with chewed wires, I've used the sprays, mothballs, cayenne pepper etc. etc. Unfortunately I live in the city so blowing them away without being arrested is not an option. Doing the humane thing is no longer a concern, just wondering what if any successful approaches you guys have taken.

I installed one of these ultrasonic pest thingies after a brutal spring last year. They really did a number on both our cars. Havent had any trouble since.

Ruger SR22 w/ scope and suppressor. Using wipes or misting water into the can will make it sound like someone spitting. Super quiet. Don't fire at homes / people

Electrified kill traps are another option. Baiting them with a bird feeder they can't jump onto combined with a funnel into an electrified kill trap they can slide out of and pile up on the ground is good.

There's a captured bolt rat trap that should work quite well for funneling as well called the A24. It's a skull cracker.

I came to suggest a suppressed .22 also ? I live out in the country, so anything I need to take care of is easily dealt with .17 hmr. My brother lives on a culdisac in town, surrounded by trees. His suppressed .22 comes in extremely handy and is a ton of fun just being able to plink with it while no one knows.

Trees close to the house have to go. It’s the only long term squirrel reduction strategy I have found. Live traps seem to catch everything but squirrel lol.

Capsaicin cream on all access points, and wiring
They make a tape with it already
Or go to pharmacy and buy cream off the shelf
We use an air rifle .22 caliber
It's deadly silent.
The ultrasonic mouse thing as well
Seems to work well

I use a PCP 22 cal pellet rifle. Almost completely quite and does a number on squirrels.

Over the winter, squirrels chewed the sh!t out of my smoker cover and all of the cushions on my porch sofa and chairs. Since I live in the suburbs with houses nearby, I first tried my Gamo pellet rifle, which was effective but too loud now that it's warmed up and people are out walking their dogs. Currently I am experimenting with equal parts baking soda and cornmeal but so far I haven't seen any bloated squirrels lying around.

I had some problems with mice and squirrels in my RV. I have been using the Rodent Away product for a few years with success with both mice and squirrels. You might want to try it with your pickup.

This works really good with a finger of peanut butter for bait and then a ice chest the trap will fit in half full of water. I'll leave the rest to your imagination. The problem with Fords vehicule’s (maybe others too), is the Soya coating on the electrical wires. This coating makes the wires look like breakfast to rodents.

Don't forget the sub-sonic rounds for the .22

I think the rodent deterrents are okay for a while, but squirrels acclimate quickly to things or just ignore them. They are quite resilient and annoying critters and need to be eradicated to solve the problem. I caught 6 of them over a 4 week period and drove them each 2 miles away to prevent them coming back. Then I found out that could be illegal in my idiotic State, so back to "neutralizing" them as quietly as possible.

The old skool rat traps do work if you can find bait they like. They tend to make a mess if they get caught in them. I've also used the trap and drown method, too. And the suppressed heat shot on rare occasions...

.22 Mag with a silencer, .17 high powered air gun. ?….seriously, you might consider a live trap and then dumping them out somewhere far away if nothing else works but that would be an ongoing solution…Cheers and good luck.

You guys are great, appreciate all of the suggestions/concerns. All great, now i just have to figure out which will pose the least amount of legal repercussions in my communist home state of NJ
