It looks like it's just the cap, and not the body of the mirror, which is easy and relatively inexpensive to replace. I had to replace mine and used Ford Points to buy a replacement.
Yeah I was looking at that, but couldn't find a replacement cap listed for the power extending/folding tow mirrors.

Not reflections per se, rather sometimes a reflection can be focused, similar to light through a magnifying glass as mentioned above..
Yep. I've seen it melt the plastic siding off a house.

It doesn't have anything to do with ambient temp. Its the light going through, or off of reflective surfaces just right and facing north wouldn't be a limiter, since the sun has a southern arc. i.e. more reflections from the north.

Not saying that is what caused this but strange stuff happens.

My guess is the magnifying effect as well. Could have happened somewhere else and you just noticed it.

I would think it should be the same PN as the regular tow mirrors. Only two choices from what I remember. Black plastic or chrome.

Maybe when it was at the dealer they got grease on it and grabbed a rag to wipe it off that had a chemical on it. Just throwing it out there.

The cap is distorted and has popped out of the housing, see second picture.

Maybe they parked it next to a heater or a torch.

It is weird in that only one facet of the mirror cover is blistered. Even going back to the "reflection/magnifying glass" theory, surprised there isn't wider spread blistering.

It is very weird. We do know something happened. We just don’t know where or how.
