It is amazing the way those options all go together and like some of us said prior, a lot of these packages aren't really worth it as much anymore. Once you run out of payload that's the end of it with towing within specs. I feel like a lot of that is marketing and real world doesn't really provide much benefit anymore.

Except it doesn't. Or didn't anyway. As I recall, it cost 20lbs. of payload. The heavier hitch and bumper brackets did increase towing capacity but at the expense of payload.

And for 25, for the PB, it only gets you an additional 400lbs. of trailer weight. 200 if a long bed.

Yeah, max tow doesn't increase the "7400lbs GVWR package" per the window sticker, I checked. Hence, a heavier axle will reduce payload.

Most of the time, it's not the GCWR that's limiting, but payload. At least it has been for me in the past.
If you never tow, correct.

If you tow, then payload most certainly has a direct effect on GCWR.

Hey all...was thinking to start a new thread on max towing capacity since I can't seem to find a definitive answer, but decided to tag on here. I am basically just trying to figure out how to build a 2025 F150 that has it's max tow capacity of 13k+ pounds. I would never try to tow that much of course. Everything I read says to do that requires the 3.5 V6 EcoBoost plus the Max Trailer Tow Package, and I guess the MTTP is not offered any more. Nor do I even see anything about upgraded radiators or a 36-gal tank as build options.

So when I try to build, I start with the XL and choose 3.5 EcoBoost, pick Tow Haul Package, but then the max tow rear axle is not an option.
Then I go to the STX, and the 3.5 is not an option.
Next up, the XLT - choose 3.5, choose 3.73 max tow rear axle..which is an $8,415 increase because you now need 20” tires...but you also have to switch to the 5.0 V8 engine as part of that upgrade.

Anyone have a straight answer or can put a link to another forum here that does?

Thanks!

This probably won't format right but:

2025 Ford F-150 Towing Capacity Chart

Harness the reliable muscle of your favorite 2025 Ford F-150 engine and get to work with confidence. The maximum towing capacity of the F-150 is 13,500 pounds. To achieve this, you’ll need the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine paired with the SuperCrew® cab, a 6.5-foot box, a 4x4 drivetrain, and the optional Tow/Haul Package. If you prefer traditional V8 muscle, the 5.0L V8 engine option clocks in to work as a close second in maximum towing capacity.

Compare the max towing capacities for each F-150 engine in the accompanying chart.

EngineMax. Towing CapacityRequired Configuration

What are you towing? If you need near the max capacity I’d skip the F-150 and look at the F-250. It’s like trying to get a MacBook Air to do MacBook Pro level tasks. You will be much more comfortable with a Super Duty if you are nearing 10k LBS.

@tsigwing - thanks, that formatted just fine and was the summary I was looking for. I did see the Tow/Haul package, but was skeptical because it only cost a few hundred bucks, while the MTTP that used to be available had the 36-gal tank (which I still don't see when building the truck on the site), upgraded radiator, an integrated trailer brake controller, engine oil cooler, upgraded front stabilizer bar ...and more. The Tow/Haul package is just the trailer brake controller and the locking real axle, and the Max Tow rear axle isn't even available on the XL or XLT .......So something didn't seem right.

@JExpedition07 - what am i towing? Nothing yet, but looking to maybe get an RV trailer in year or two...nothing huge, something in the 25' range that weighs around 5500 lbs, then with 1500 lbs of gear and water. So not wanting to get anywhere near 10k... but still researching and learning. Would also use the truck as an EDD, so an F250 might not be great for that.

Thanks for the responses!
