I saw some of that info, but 12.7V is 100% full. 12.6V is 95% full (roughly) and the trucks do a fine job keeping the voltage above this limit if used regularly.

(All lead batteries need to be above 90% SOC (state of charge) to prevent sulfating.)


The three main selling points of Northstar batteries:

1: They have very little resistance- similar to Lithium, so they recharge extremely fast, which decreases the number of cycles you use, which increases its life even more.

2: These are the only Lead batteries that will provide roughly 500 CCA at 5% SOC. To put this in comparison, most Flooded/AGMs will not start anything at 60% SOC or less.

3: They are exceptional at holding their voltage under a load-

Example: I ran 25A discharge tests on about a dozen different AGM batteries sold in the USA and Northstar smoked every other option:

25A discharge basic results:
Northstar: Held 12.65-12.70 volts for 30+ min. And was the only brand that was reserve capacity was underrated on the label.

Odyssey: Held 12.65-12.70V for 7-10 min.
Was close to meeting its reserve capacity rating.

EVERY other brand failed by 10-60% (including Optima, which was one of the worst options)

I just looked at the north star site. Can you tell me which battery fits our trucks? 22PB. They don’t have a vehicle drop down unless I missed it.

How to find a Northstar battery:

1: Check the Northstar website or google for a distributor.

I was just on their website. It was written by an engineer, and not a product person. It would take me an hour to cross-reference a battery for a PowerBoost, let alone find a dealer on their site.

Is there a specific Northstar product/page that you would point us to for a PowerBoost?

I was merely pointing out that the recommended Northstar is now discontinued for others knowledge and as Snakebitten pointed out one post above, we are unsure what the direct replacement is. Sure, we can use google and find a Northstar for sale through an online source, but maybe some of us prefer to buy from a local vendor and to do so, need more info on the replacement part #, model #, etc.

Yeah, that was my lazy attempt at being helpful. No shade intended. I went out and looked at my 5.0L Battery. Its Ford Part Number is BAGM 48H6 760. Its also very small in the tray for the 5.0L. We can put a lot more battery in here.

Looks like they made some changes since I toured the plant down in Springfield, MO.

I'll have to perform some more tests to confirm the X2 is still Northstar, but if it isn't, then it's the Odyssey, which is the 2nd best (now first.)

Thanks for the insight. I finally picked up the X2 this morning for my Raptor. Tired of the low battery warnings and remote start not working (and occasional need to use the battery boost).

Hoping this finally fixes that annoyance.

I just replaced the OEM battery in my 5.0 with the X2power from Batteries Plus, part number SLI94RAGMDP. I gather this is the replacement version from the Northstar linked above.

I recently installed a dashcam with parking mode and figured this is as good a time as any to upgrade the battery to maximize parking mode. I was getting ~15 hours (overnight) with the stock battery so it will be interesting to see how much longer the X2 battery will take before it drops below 12v which is the cut off limit for parking mode.
