How do you pop the visors out of the headliner? Just use a pry tool or something else necessary to push in some tabs?
Not sure if you are asking about the visors or the clips. The sun visors are held in with a screw. You have to lightly pry the cap off where the mount is and remove the screw. Then the visor will come down and you will have to maneuver it out of the hole. If you are asking how the clips come out, well, they shouldn't and it's a super pain to find anything to get in to compress the tabs. My driver side was so loose that it just popped out. So bottom line is that if you can't get the clip out, then don't. You should just be cable to insert shims between the headliner and mount location. Once you reinstall the visor, it will take up the slack and sandwich the shims. To give you an example on what a pain to get those clips out, when I took the truck to the dealer and they couldn't fix it, I removed the visor and found gouge marks where they used some sort of medieval tool to remove the clip. Wasn't happy.

Appreciate it. I think I’m going to start with the dealer. If they fail I’ll tackle this myself. For me the passenger side is the extremely loose one.

I would expect just a new clip would solve it. This can’t be that hard of a situation. Wonder if bad bunch of clips or something.

Yea, I agree to have the dealer at least look at it, but don't be surprised if they tell it's normal or tell you that there is nothing they can do about it. They replaced both my clips and there was zero change. This is definitely a manufacturer's defect. If that happens, just do the shim thing. You can use either 1/8 thick plastic or metal. I did report it to the NTHSA but as with everything gov't, I don't expect anything to happen soon, not to mention that most owners probably don't even know they have the issue. Mine are still tight months after use with the shims. Wishing you the best of luck at the dealer!

Has anyone had an issue with the sun visors on both Driver and Passenger side being loose? Just bought a 2023 Lariat and when swinging the driver visor out to block the sun coming in the driver window, the visor is sloppy loose. Checked the passenger side and same thing. Tried tightening the screw and no joy. $72K vehicle and it appears that Ford cheeped out on the one thing that I use every single time I drive. There is no way that someone installed these things and didn't notice. Super Pissed right now. I had a 21 XLT and didn't have this problem.

I would love to, but last time I did that with a separate issue, I never got a response, so I have lost faith that anyone at Ford even cares about this. Please prove that this is not a bot.

I think what you're asking is how do you remove the clips the visor clip into? There are screws iirc

This thread piqued my curiosity, so I checked my 2024 just now. The plastic base on my driver and passenger both certainly have some play in them, maybe a quarter of an inch wiggle left and right when I unclip and turn the visor to the side window, but nothing that affects function.

Took mine in to dealer for this and a couple other items. Was told that the clips fit up to the body as intended and they remain snug enough and will not fall out or are not abnormally loose.

I suppose as long as they never fall out I'm OK with that answer but again, never ever seen any other vehicle with movement where the visors connect to the headliner.

EDIT: Just played with them again... gonna have to try the shim solution. Bugs me. Particularly my passenger side which is really way too loose in my opinion.

OK, tackled this myself yesterday. User cdberkman was right about the clips. My passenger side was not very sung and didn't take much for the clip to fall out. So I bent the clips outward to ensure that they couldn't easily fall out of the headliner.

Beyond that, I can understand the recommendation for shims and the headliner, but I see the problem being slightly different....

1) the clip moves slightly side-to-side in its hole. I suspect this contributes a small amount to the movement

2) The big issue, I believe, is the visor "hook", not the clip + screw. The opening in the roof for the hook is very wide, and the inboard side is not metal it is only headliner. If you stick your finger in the hole and feel towards the rear of the vehicle, it seems there might be some kind of channel up there that the hook should rest in. However, this channel is either too wide, or too shallow, and so the hook can easily slide side-to-side even when the screw and clip are fully snug.

So what I did was use some thick felt (furniture felt?), adhesive on one side that abuts the metal (pic with screwdriver) and attempted to take out all the slop in the area around the hook. Did this on both sides of the truck and the visors now barely move. I also put a layer or two of electrical tape on the sides of the metal clip to try to reduce the slight motion still in that area.

My opinion is Ford needs to address how this hook attaches to the headliner/frame. Needs more of something to grab onto. It seems to be basically flat instead of a "hump" attached to the body for the hook to grab. Because it is flat, it easily moves side to side. Makes me wonder if there used to be something there and was removed for cost purposes. But without anything for the hook to rest on or grab, there is simply no way for it not to move. Or they need to make the frame hole the proper size so that the plastic hook cannot move side-to-side.

Anyway, this worked for me. If I were to try again, I might just try a piece of felt at the top of the hook. Maybe that would take up slack with whatever the hook is attempting to grab, or maybe not.

Good luck.

Nice and great recommendations. I did try padding the hooks, and although it did make it tight, I couldn't get the visor fully back in the hole, but I used electrical tape which probably contributed to that. The shims, for me, fully fixed mine and there is no movement side to side, but I'm glad your fix worked too. The issue is that the visor mount is sitting only on the clip and not making any contact on the roof structure (where the clip is installed). So if the clip is loose in the mount, obviously the visor will be loose. I can't understand that this has been an ongoing issue that has carried over to the '24 model year. You would think that someone would have at the very least, quietly fixed it.... Anway, great to hear that yours is fixed.
