I bought a splitter and one goes to the radio, the other goes to an SDR in the glove box, connected to a Raspberry Pi 5. The Pi runs dump1090 and feeds ADS-B data to FlightAware, ADSBExchange, FlightRadar24 and some others. The antenna isn't tuned for 1.09 GHz but it pulls in most planes from ~50 miles away (which is kinda low for a proper feeder setup but I think it's neat). Why Ford insists on continuing to put the massive antenna on the F150 is beyond me.
I think Ford's official reasoning is there are plenty of people living rural or driving long road trips that want good FM reception, and this is what the engineers picked for that. It's easy to change if it bothers people.
