Key fob battery or something else

I gassed up today and went to leave the station and I got a “key not present” warning. I got out of the truck and tried locking it and nothing. I got back in and still nothing. I started the truck with the Ford Pass app and it still wouldn’t recognize my key. I finally stuck it in the slot under the cup holder and it let me put it in drive.
I got home and the key fob is working fine now. I didn’t get any notification about a low fob battery but I replaced it anyway.
We’re going on a trip in a couple days and I’m worried about getting stranded.
Has anyone had this problem? Has it left you stranded?

You can try the key backup slot located under the cup holder's rubber bottom -- place the key in it.

If only 1 fob has this issue, it's the battery. If both have this issue, it could be the antenna located under the cup holder. Either way you should be under warranty.

I took the truck in for an oil change and to get the wipers adjusted so they didn’t hit the A pillar. I asked the service advisor about the key fob issue and he said that they had gotten multiple calls from customers that were at businesses and they were getting the “no key detected” message. He said that it was radio frequency interference and to just use the slot under the cup holder.
Technology is a wonderful thing!

I get this every time if I have my fob and phone in the same pocket. Common problem that is often overlooked.

I like the push button start, but I never had this issue with the key start!

That happens to me every time I go to Kwik Trip.

I wonder if they could program Sync to put a message on the screen to use the slot under the cup holder if you get a no key detected message? I’m sure there are a lot of people that don’t know about this issue!
