Key code, not door code

My new to me 21 did not come with the key code. I have always read that going to the parts dept with ID and papers of ownership, and they will tell you the key code.

The last 2 parts dept that I was in, they barely waited on me since I was ordering online. Are there any other options?

Sorry don’t have a suggestion I just recall when buying the truck they drilled into head not to lose those codes. I guess your experience is the reason for that.

Thanks all, looks like an expensive trip to an auto locksmith and or the dealer just to get the key code. Its a good thing that I have 2 originals that are cut and the third that I have recently added and programed, just needs the key cut which is $50 bucks.

Still would love to have the key code for my file.

Fobs can be done at home..but requires both original fobs
Dealer can order a fob via

And then program it with thier system
Process takes less than 20 minutes
But some dealers take hours

I think everyone here is thinking you want another fob.

You just want the door lock metal key code number. They come in the little black pouch in the glove box. I have mine and a dealer can give you yours. With that number, the dealer can cut another metal key.

Yes that is what I want, key code. They did not have it at the dealer I bought from in Florida and they would not get it for me at their sister dealer, the Ford dealer that originally ordered and sold the truck, so that is what I want and need for my file. I have already bought a Ford Fob and programed it.

Thanks, ive already done all of that, I just need the actual key code that you get when you buy a new vehicle, for some reason when I bought this used truck they did not have it. As I stated, I have the original 2 fobs and cut keys. I have a third FOB that is program and will get the key cut. Just need the emergency key code.

I heard it is hard to get due to security reasons, but any dealer can get it. They just don't want to go through the trouble of getting it.

Thats what I hear also, I will find out shortly because I am headed to a dealer.

mission completed. My service guy took my docs, completed a form for my request and a workorder and gave to service manager to complete the task. Took about 15 minutes in total. Thanks all!

Ask to talk to the Parts manager. Go higher up the management chain. You are correct that the Ford dealer will give you the key number if you have a title, drivers license id, in you name. The regular parts folks did not know about the process. Try not to take no for an answer, and ask to talk to corporate if it gets to that stage. A locksmith cannot get you that key number, according to the locksmith that cut my emergency key.
