Is there a disadvantage to leaving the drivetrain in 4A all the time?

I have a 2024 Lariat PB. I used to switch from 2H to 4A when roads got wet, I wanted extra traction to accelerate quickly, or I was off-road. The last couple of months, I have been in 4A all the time. There appears to be little difference in fuel economy between 2H and 4A. Is there a disadvantage to driving in 4A all the time?

My only thoughts are slight decrease in mpg and increased drivetrain wear.

I drive in Sport Mode 4A all the time (except on long distance highway trips). MPG is 18.4 with varied street and highway use. From what I’ve read on other threads cylinder deactivation over time is not good for the engine but was done b/c of Government mandates.

The biggest question is why leave it in 4A?

For the trucks with the TOD transfer case Ford eliminated the eIWE's (which disengage the front hubs) starting in mid ~2021. So in your case there isn't really any difference running 2H vs 4A, other than being able to transfer torque to the front when its needed

I leave mine in 4AWD all the time.

• To avoid cylinder deactivation, you can use Sport Mode or Tow/Haul Mode, which are designed to prevent its engagement.

Decrease drivetrain wear. I'd only use in slippery conditions.
