I have followed lots of debate on here about whether or not the oil life monitor is a good predictor of oil life. But does anyone know what variables it uses to arrive at a value (e.g., milage, operating hours, sensors, etc.) and how it performs the calculations?

I just did my first oil change, at 4k miles/10 months. I don’t drive much and the oil life showed 25%, so i went for it.

The only time I've looked at it on purpose was to make sure it was reset after the first oil change at 4800 mi. About to change it again and rotate the tires before a trip at just over 9k.

My 2011 3.5 the oil monitor would run 7500 miles max, usually between 5-7k.

It adjusts based on factors known only to Ford. I assume 10 years newer my 2021 has a better guestimate on oil.

It does adjust the interval based on how you are driving the truck. When towing it pulls the percentage of oil life down faster then just highway driving. My other car is just time/mileage based.

According to FORD I can change my oil every 16000 KM and/or once a year. Last September I had the oil changed on my truck and I was going to Florida in Feb. So between Sep and my departure, my drives were fairly short and drove in cold weather (Dec-Feb). So when it was time to leave for Florida, my OLM was saying that I was still good for 4000 KM. When I arrived in Florida, my OLM was still showing that I was good for 4000 KM. So the truck takes in consideration the type of driving and the temperature as well. How accurate and reliable it is, I don't know but I trust it enough to use it.

I used the one in my 09 Lariat. When I traded it in it had 245k miles. No engine repairs except a thermostat. Still didn’t use any oil between changes. I plan to use it on my new truck too.

I used the oil life monitor in my 2017 3.5 NA and it went about 10K between reminders always went with a full synthetic oil. That engine was pretty understressed IMO and when I sold it with about 50K on it, it ran smooth and quiet and I never had to add oil. My 2023 2.7 has about 4.5K miles, waiting to see if the reminder co.es up earlier due to it being a turbo engine. I suspect it will be shorter. My ecoboost mustang remi ded me about 8K.

I was told by my service advisor that with any turbo charged engine the oil should be changed every 6 months or 5000 miles regardless what the oil minder says .This will extend the life of my 21 EB Platinum.
