I have a 2024 F150 on order and would like to add an integrated tailgate step soon after it arrives. My question is can it be added to my existing tailgate?
The part number is:
Step Assembly - Ford (ML3Z-99402A48-BA)
OEM Step Assembly For 2021-2023 Ford

I have been told that it can’t be done, but I never stop searching at the first few no’s.
Do any of our esteemed members have any experience with this part or know of a knowledgeable source that I might approach on this subject?

I highly doubt 2024 will be any different, but No, you cannot install the integrated step into a tailgate that did not originally come with the step in it. The interior structure of each tailgate is different.

Standard Tailgate PN: ML3Z9940700A
Step Tailgate PN: ML3Z9940700L

I highly recommend the AMP Research bed step. Works with tailgate up or down, tucks up and under the bumper when not in use.

Interior brackets are not in the tailgate to mount the step. Best to find a tail gate from a junk yard and have it painted your trucks color.

I had the AMP step on my RAM. It was great for the first year or so. Then it just started to bind up and cracked. Became useless. It also located right where all the snow, slush and salt accumulate. My experience was not great, but in hindsight I'd lubricate it every spring to hope for a different long term outcome.

In Canada I had to order the Power Tailgate to get the integrated tailgate step.

Well I tried. I had hoped that it could be done. Things are seldom that simple.

I appreciate your help. Thanks.

I wanted a RCSB and there are no options available on that configuration. I’m glad that most of the other options that I wanted are now standard.
Here in Georgia we seldom have to worry about snow. Thanks for your input.

That is really unfortunate. I live in Minnesota so no stranger to winter, snow, salt, sand going on 3 years with mine without issue...so far. I do have weather tech mud flaps, which help keep some of that off the Amp step, I also wash my truck regularly to try to keep the sand and salt out there, hopefully I'll get several more years out of the step, time will tell.

There is another option that was suggested to me. It is a step that slides into the trailer hitch. It slides in to be out of the way yet extends out to allow use when the tailgate is lowered. It allows you to step up in the center of the tailgate. It looks like it could do a number on your knees if you forget to slide it back in. But I guess that you wouldn’t make that mistake more than once.
Thanks for your input.
