Is adding scales a practical thing to consider on a Job1 MY21 HDPP? If it has any bearing on the existence of certain wire harnesses, it has Co-Pilot 360 Assist 2.0 and 360 cameras. I really don't want to replace every wire harness in the truck but am willing to add a few parts and connect things where most of the connections are already there.

Depends what you want to use it for. I have the Onboard Scales and Smart Hitch. I ordered the feature so I could watch my tongue weight for towing my travel trailer.

It's pretty much useless since I have to guess the weight of my trailer anyway for the system to determine how much weight should be on my tongue.

When I ordered it, I was under the impression it was supposed to know the weights once the trailer was hooked up. I guess I was naive.

If that's what you want it for, you'd probably be better off with this:

It may be useful to me for measuring tongue weight on the fly because I have a Propride weight distributing hitch on which I can adjust the spring tension on the fly. I'm not certain of how valuable that would be, though, since it includes what's in the bed and cab.

You have to guess the weight of what is in the bed and cab to enter it into OnBoard scales as well.

But, yes, using the taillights or dash display you can adjust the tongue weight and see where you're at provided you don't have my issue...

Most likely, but it’s a lot of work for so little in return. If you don’t have CCD, you’ll need all 4 ride height sensors (1 at each wheel) plus the VDM. Then you’ll have to wire it all up, and running that wiring will be time consuming. You’ll also need new tail lights if you want the tail lamp scales indicators. I’m not sure if these are required, but feel pretty certain they’re not

I takes up 25 lbs of payload? Damn. That's a lot of tacos I could've packed instead.

Here are some of the options shown in Forscan. I didn’t progress past the second image.

this calibration throws a message "the vehicle conditions not met". probably because I have CCD rear suspensions. does anybody know how to calibrate onboard scales with CCD?

Has anyone figured out adding onboard scales? I have a 24 king ranch fx4. I climbed underneath and saw that I have a the VDM on driver side frame and have the height sensors on all 4 corners as well. I enabled the onboard scale feature on the APIM with for scan. What else would need to be done? Do I have the wrong VDM and need one that has the onboard scale built in?

Just to be clear I have not yet fully tested since I need to install the missing VDM module to 100% confirm function. My assumption, which I plan to verify at some point, is the wiring exists to install the VDM on the earlier trucks. I doubt they changed the harnesses for JOB2 trucks. Also my truck is a JOB2 truck (July) but tremor does not offer the scales as an option period, so my truck might have wiring yours does not. I doubt it though.

If your Larait is a 502A you should have everything else you need already minus the VDM. The scales system uses the same sensors as the auto leveling headlights.

The LED tail lights in my truck even have the load indicators.

Once a VDM is installed and programmed you would need to change a handfull of settings in various modules with FORScan to enable the scales.

I am happy to share the forscan changes with anyone who wants to be a guinea pig via PM. I did not want to send them wide on the forum until I could workout instructions for adding a VDM to a truck without one. It’s pointless without that missing module and that makes this a slightly more advanced mod than most forescan changes.

Did you ever figure this out? I have a 24 f150 KR fx4. I have the auto leveling headlights at all four corners and under the driver side rear door I see a vdm on the frame. I did perform the calibration using the same process as you would use to operate the scales. I made sure the wheels were straight forward with the truck on level ground. The calibration was very quick and I didn't see the message you reported. The calibration did correct the issue I was experiencing where the scales would show zero after I had a 1.5" level installed.

Maybe you are already aware of this, but have you used "Scaled Mode"? Scale Mode will actually show numbers on the scale. I have found it accurate enough to be helpful. See my description here: Using Onboard Scales (seeing actual scale numbers)

huntersechrist,
I'd be interested in what you need to get onboard scales working on my 24 Lariat 502 with tow package. When I ordered the truck I thought it was apart of the tow package, I was wrong, AGAIN...
