I have a 2024 F150 Powerboost XLT that I purchased in Jun 2024. Since the time I purchased the truck I have been driving it extremely carefully and been maintaining distance wherever I parked. Another relative of mine bought the same truck in Jun 2025.

Today we were all at a third relative's house. When I entered I saw his truck was parked and I slowly reversed mine and parked it a foot long away. It was a slope. So parking brakes were on. I asked him to reverse his truck a bit. Instead of reversing his truck, he drove forward and his license plate hit my fender. I was not at the scene. Once I found it I got incredibly upset because I see two very small dents as shown below. Seeing that I got upset the whole family came out. He says he did not realize he went forward when he intended to go back. My wife also faults me for asking him to back up instead of me parking a bit forward. The reason I did not park forward was because I wanted to give folks space to enter the driveway.

This particular relative also has some mental growth issues. So no one likes to be hard on him. I am incredibly upset because I have been maintaining the truck really carefully. Based on the picture below can I just keep it as is or does this need to be replaced. He says he will pay for it but I don't want to do so since he is on my inlaws side and also does not have stable job.

"he drove forward and his license plate hit my fender."

All I can see is a photo of a rear bumper.

"can I just keep it as is or does this need to be replaced."

That's up to you. To keep peace in the family any replacement costs would probably be best covered by you. Like you, I am ever so careful about where I park. I'd chalk it up as a lesson learned and move forward.

Can you check it now? Do you feel it's extremely enough to replace or just minor?

I'll be blunt..... Let it go. Its not worth the tension it will cause with your familly relationship. Its just a truck and in all honesty, that damage is nothing. I know its frustrating and I am not minimizing it but, people and familly relationships are far more valuable than a perfect truck, Just my two cents.

Yeah, at this point, you’re pretty much screwed.
Personally, if I were you chalk it up to family stuff. Go talk to the parts guy at Ford. Get a new part put it on

From now on either take a rental car over there or park down the street.

Does it suck, yeah. Worth getting upset over, nah. I can tell you that if you are like about 99% of the population you will have more things happen to the truck, or any vehicle that you drive.

I wouldn't spend a penny getting that fixed as minor as it is. Good luck.

You don’t need to replace any of it.

If I were you and it bugged me enough to fix it.

1. Watch some videos on paintless dent repair to fix the bumper yourself. Probably won’t get it perfect, but you’ll get it to you being the only one who notices.

2. Get a cheap plastic welder and watch some plastic trim welding videos, if you don’t want to embark on that, I don’t think the plastic trim piece cost very much.

That is nothing and without you circling it any of us standing by the truck probably would never notice. I know you'll keep seeing it but eventually you'll let it go. Shit happens.

I'm still pissed about a loose shopping cart scuffing my front bumper while I was in a store parked far from cars. Happened last week and I'll get over it next month. ?

Someone is going to bump the same spot at the local grocery story, hardware store, parallel parking, etc.

You will do worse to your own truck, it's just a matter of when.

Believe me when I tell you, I understand!

A story. I purchased a brand new snowmobile to the tune of $18,000. The right panel had a small scuff on it. I pointed it out and the dealership said they would replace it. I was told to leave the sled with them. My wife said to me in private, isn't that the side that always gets smacked by branches, weeds, saplings, etc. I turned back around and said I'd take it today, and don't worry about the panel.

Oh man…. I feel this.

Two quick stories.

A friend backed his Jeep into my Jeep. I did not see it but he told me about it. Initially, it did not look like ANY damage but actually it was pretty bad. Fortunately I was able to fix it with PDR and by re-aligning the door. Cost me about $250. Not a huge amount but still…. He offered to pay and asked how much. I refused and never told him or anyone else in the group what it cost. I also never mentioned it again. I was afraid the $250 might be an issue in the future for our friendship and it was not worth it to me.

I also bought my F150 in June of 24 and try to take exceptionally good care of it. I park as far away from everyone as I can. I, me, all by myself hit a pole and smashed up the passenger side. TALK ABOUT PISSED!!!!!!! I was furious at me and the whole situation. But…. I got it fixed. Yes, it cost $2,000 but it looks like new again and I have moved on.

Those are two very small marks. If you pay to fix them, there’s a great chance that something else will happen in the future so….
