I took the first step and had my tires rebalanced. Sure enough, one of the rears was out. That eliminated my shacking problem. Now I just need a small dial end to get rid of a slight vibration, or just live with it.

I'm glad you were able to find the problem! On my truck, that last bit of vibration was eliminating by adding a shim to the differential thick side facing forward.

Sad thing is, that is where it was set. I removed my shim to get where I am now. My pinion is pointing up at 2.2 degrees. If I ad the shim I will be at 4.2. That should work, but it doesn't.
I don't remember, is your truck 4x4?

My truck is 2WD, and I'm sure that is why it didn't work on yours. Get a digital angle reader and place it on the water pump pulley to get your engine drive angle. From there, match your pinion angle to run parallel to your engine. That should work. See picture to best describe how both angles should be at.

I wonder if your truck has less of a drive angle than a 2WD due to its mounting point on the crossmember. If the mounting point is on the transfer case, further back on the frame. It will reduce the drive angle.

I have been doing that, but my old ass is tired of the floor. I am going to take it to my buddies drive on lift!

Definitely not a fun adjustment to be making. I think I had to adjust a good 7 times until I got it right. I was also tried shimming the transmission to lessen the angle. Rear shim was the way to go on my truck.

@EL5_Zero , I'm confused of this degree of angle and you matching it to the rear end. Doesn't that say 85.90. I still have to watch the videos that you shared.

GREAT write-up by the way!
Great info!

My angle finder has magnets on one side only. So when I set it up on the metal water pump pulley, it automatically reads off of 90 degrees. So, if we're perpendicular to the ground, 90 - 85.9 = 4.1 degrees.

Gotcha!
I might have to try this and save some $. It's supposed to go in Sept 16th to a performance alignment shop to check alignment and pinion angle.

I might as well try it. I'm getting ready to add some IHC helper bags and Fox shocks to my ride quality kit.

Did you have yours on the ground when checking these angles? Or on 2 sets of ramps?

I had the truck on the ground. I barely fit under the truck to measure the pinion, but made it work. Hopefully you get yours dialed in.

I usually do all of my own work, but I work a lot 70+ hour weeks, I got lucky and bought a used car off of a guy who is the GM of a suspension and alignment shop that has been around for a long time and has a great reputation especially with the lowered / raised suspension community. I had them install my IHC 3/5 Ride Quality Kit and they did the alignment and set the pinion angle, it's been perfect since driving it out of the shop. They aren't what I consider cheap they charge $900 - $1100 to install a kit that uses a flip kit to lower the rear end, but if you have the money and do not have the time (I'm doing a bunch of wiring work on my 06 Chevy Dually re-looming all of the engine and transmission harnesses due to age and I'm also doing the fuel system on one of my Harleys and doing some work to another one of my Harleys, so being able to dedicate my 1 day off to my dually and Harleys while they installed my IHC kit was worth it to me and having a warranty on the work and the alignment is nice too. I will be adding helper bags myself when I have time since the bags aren't as important to me as getting the truck lowered was so I can take my time with the bags. I literally always have 2-3 projects going on and get approximately 2 - 3 days off a month when I'm on a work project with a deadline.

Having done the work myself, that 900-1100 quote is not too bad. Specially if you have all the equipment and tools to get the job done, plus warranty. I sometimes also prefer to hire someone to work on my cars or home if I don't have the time due to work. I see it as helping a fellow brother. If I'm busy making money doing what I'm good at, there's nothing wrong with sharing the piece of the pie with someone that is competent in their craft.

Fox shocks are here.
2.5° shims will be here Wednesday.
IHC helper bags will be here Thursday.
New u-bolts and nuts will be here Thursday.

IHC told me I can reuse the original U-Bolts but I've had these loosened and torqued a few times and want the piece of mind they aren't over stressed. Ford says they're not reusable.

I'll be installing everything this weekend.

Nice! Keep us updated! I also plan on ordering the helper bags just in case I decide to load up the truck.
