Keep getting alerts of keep hands on steering wheel. Hands are on wheel. Sometimes have to move hands around to make it go away. At times vehicle will slow down before seeing hands on wheel. Once started breaking before sensing hands on wheel.

The steering wheel is looking for 1.5 NM of torque applied from your hands. If you have two hands on the wheel, sometimes the forces from the left cancel out the right and it doesn’t detect any force.

If you have a 2021 you might be missing an OTA that changed the threshold for alerts, it used to look for more, maybe 4 NM.

I was driving a 2024 STX as a loaner and got the message when not on cruise or bluecruise. Was very strange. That has never happened on my 2022. When on cruise control or bluecruise you need to shake the steeering wheel to let the computer know hands are on it.

Lane keep, if it's on will trigger those alarms as well.

Newer OTAs enable the detection in even more scenarios. They also turn on the eye tracker more often.

Curious if you've tried unplugging the CMR to see if it gets mad. Looking for a way to be able to shut it off unless the driver decides to sub to BC for a month. A simple switch to simply shut off its power would be great.

it will not even allow hands on if the CMR is unhappy. I had to use forscan to tell it I don’t have a CMR

I'll get the message even when not using cruise, if the road is straight enough that you are not making slight adjustments in the steering wheel, it will go off. Just give the wheel a little turn and it goes away.

There are no sensors in the steering wheel to know that you are touching it, you have to move the wheel for it to know.

I found this very frustration at first. It seemed I was either getting the warning or fighting the self steering. I found if I just let the weight of my arm hand slightly on the steering wheel on either side so there is just a little pressure it works great. Your millage may vary.

I have a 2022 Lincoln Aviator with no problems. But my 2024 F-150 Lariat has this problem all the time.

I drive with one hand at the apex of the steering wheel, which ordinarily requires very little force applied to the wheel to drive. The sensitivity of the cruise control with lane keep is overly sensitive to the point it is annoying - I find that I have to constantly countersteer the lane keeping system, and purposely apply force to the wheel to avoid the incessant nanny-alert. I will probably end up writing a letter to Ford with my complaint, as the cruise control with lane keep is so annoying I almost don't want to use it...

I agree with you on all of your points, and that you shouldn't have to change anything. But if you do want the alerts to stop, moving your hand to 9:00 or 3:00 should fix the issue. With a hand at 12:00 or 6:00 there is no torque being applied to the steering wheel.

Yes, I agree...however, I should not be forced to change my driving interface to suit the truck...

Any idea what update this was? Thx
