After reading 40-50 hours on the forum here I realise just how many Custom builds (many very high end!) have been done. What impressed me the most was the lengths some will go to create a 'factory' look/equipment of high end trims the XL never came with. I feel a little humbled with the plans I have now. But my limted budget and more importantly lack of skills to complete the more technical modifications will keep MY XL build basic..But if I'm really careful picking parts and a great local Florida shop to install what I will get I think it will be special.
First mod will be Pro paint correction ceramic and PPF.. I expect this will run close to two thousand but it's vital from everything I have read for both the "Look" I want and easy matience. Back in 2015 when I bought my new Fit I spent dozens of hours with clay bar and polish..I don't have enough hip knees and uncarpled wrist/hand now. Plus to really do it right takes a lot of equipment/tools and products. I still get Sticker Shock on many things but inflation is not my fault.

Dale just about the same thoughts I had. But the real kicker was cost..I built a identical XL Super cab and single cab with the 5.0 and 3.73 locker 6 1/2' bed and the Super cab was $7,000.00 more..I'm not sure if extended warranty cost is the same but is probably a little more. No 36 gallon tank available for the single cab short bed but if it was I would check that box too. I was originally going Blue also but after much deliberation decided on Carbon Gray as I think it goes better with the XL black trim. If the 360 camera was a option for the XL maybe that too. If reasonable cost.
Dale did you check with Granger?? 4% BACK of invoice that is apox $37,000.00!! No dealership in Florida will probably match that. 4×4 option will add to that number and I don't know exactly what invoice will be..But YOU might want to check that. Especially if you are considering a extended warranty as Granger will sell you that fo fifty bucks over there cost. Florida won't let me do that. After all is said and done the XL single cab is well equipped and the PERFECT base for a modern sport truck (I.E. Lighting!) and no other brand in a lower trim single cab is as cheep or looks as cool.
I thought about Granger and there is a dealer in New Jersey that is offering a similar deal. I checked on the freight cost from NJ to Georgia and it was about $1000. I thought about flying and driving the truck back, but long freeway drives is not a good way to break an engine in. It makes the deal less attractive and thought buying from the local dealer was probably the better option for me. I don't buy extended warranty, so that doesn't matter to me. I don't go off roading except on my place to manage the property. I have a couple of steep hills where I have been stranded a couple of times and had to walk to the house in the rain and walk back a couple of days later after it had dried out. I swore that my next truck would be 4x4.

My modifications would be to lower the truck a little and improve the handling on the street. I am more of a car person and don't care for the handling of tall trucks. My Little Blue Truck is scheduled to be built 1/29/2024.

That is great. Keep in touch and let me know how it goes. I am hoping to get a little more out of my local dealer and avoid the long trip to Granger and back.

I bought a deuce and a half, M35A3, from Fort Riley, Kansas a number of years ago. I flew in to Manhattan and got a ride to Fort Riley. After I took care of all the paperwork, I started checking the tires and all of the fluids. After I was satisfied that it was roadworthy, I got underway. It was quite a trip at 48 mph all the way to Atlanta. I made a stop at Redstone Arsenal to pickup a M105 trailer. The trip was fun but tiring. I don’t believe that I would want to make a trip like that again at my age. I hope that it works out well for you. Remember that you should vary speed, load, and rpms during the break in period. Constant freeway speed is not the best way to break in an engine. That is why I looked into transport.
Good luck and have fun.

I'd love a RCSB, but four grandkids and wife and I use it to travel. She likes riding up higher in thr truck.
Nothing wrong with an XL...mine was an STX because I didn't want chrome.

I like looking at cars and doing the research, but I hate the typical car buying experience. I'm the kind of person that really pushes for a good deal and hates every minute of it. My experience with Granger was much different. Granger was like having a nice dinner at a quiet restaurant while all my other experiences were like going to circus.

My wife and I flew out to Iowa and we were picked up at the hotel by a driver from Granger. We were at the dealership less than 45 minutes and on our way home before lunch. Although my wife and I like activity, we took two days coming back, and enjoyed the trip back in our new truck.

I’m glad that your experience went well.

I picked up my RCSB, yesterday. I had gotten quotes from Granger and a dealer in New Jersey and compared them with my local dealer. The price that I negotiated with my local dealer was within $1,200 of the price from the distant dealers. The quoted price for transport from NJ was $1,000.

I decided that going out of state wasn’t worth the hassle. I have retrieved vehicles from long distances before and they were always an adventure and all were used vehicles. Long distances at highway speeds is not a good way to break in a new engine. Driving a new vehicle from Iowa or NJ to Georgia is not an option that I would consider. My only option would be transport.

I was quite pleased when I arrived at the dealership and found that the paperwork was exactly as I had hoped that it would be. With the one exception that they gave me a $500 discount for ordering the vehicle that I wasn’t expecting.
I was ready to be raked over the coals to buy dealer installed options, additional charges, and extended warranty. They offered the warranty but didn’t object when I declined. You see I had never had anything in writing and was never asked to put down a deposit. I had never been asked to even sign anything when I ordered my truck. We only shook on it months ago when I went in to place the order.
I couldn’t be more pleased with my truck buying experience at Billy Cain Ford in Commerce, GA.

Just bought a 2023 STX. My son has one he bought a few months ago. Turns out they are identical except for color. I have more stuff on this one than I had on my first 1988 F-150 Lariat. My son calls our STX’s “Poverty Models”. ?

I thought I would update my F-150 journey since a few decisions have been made.
Ford's build and price has a few changes in last few weeks and I've managed to get the $2,000.00 deposit so my order will be placed on March 28..Then the real wait begans!!
2024 XL Regular cab 6.5 bed two wheel drive.
Black platform running boards (can't get in without out them) Rear privacy glass cloth seats and a new option.. Dealer installed Bed rug! I had planned to get that when I got back to Florida and am really happy I'll have it on delivery..
Total MSRP is well under 41 K. The one big decision left is color. Iconic Silver OR Carbonized Grey. I'm going to a local dealership this weekend to see both before I order.
I have decided on the company to make my leather interior. LEATHERSEATS.COM. I haven't picked my final design quite yet but 'Black Gator' embossed cowhide will be the main leather with graphite charcoal or grey in the upgraded 'Ecstasy' leather trim. No weird color or stitching but I'm leaning towards silver piping (sic?)
I decided not to try to cheep out on the interior but go 100% leather for all parts of the seats and interior. Plus map pockets on the driver and passenger seat back. I'm going to try and have something done on the arm rest and if it works out dye some of that grey plastic that's EVERYWHERE on a XL..

Congrats! I think going with the lighter Silver instead of the darker Gray for a FL residence is a good call. If you do any mods with the appearance of the truck and do them with a black theme (to go with the running boards) the contrast of the black and silver will really pop.

When I picked up mine from Granger my flight was delayed causing Granger to reschedule a new pickup adding more delay. Then when I got there it had just had a major snow storm and was crappy so I never got to take the picture of the truck with the Granger sign in the back. I hope you get to take your "birthday" Granger picture when you get there.

I did get this though. Good luck.

After pricing out payment and insurance for the new truck ($40,000.00 @60 months 6.3%) and insurance I wonder just how in the world folks can afford 50 60 70 grand or even far more to buy a fancy new one! The higher interest rates make a huge difference in payment. The extra 7 grand for a Super cab or twice that for a higher trim seems..not worth it to me.
Searching for a 2023 to save is a bust too. I know I would always regret having a smaller screen and the refresh looks so much better especially in a XL! With a few basic mod's that are not too expensive I can make a XL look like a limited edition modern 'Lighting' (1999-2004 era) and perform better than that even before adding a supercharger. I have decided to get a Ford extended warranty with a zero deductible and loaner so if all the new tech or mechanical problems happen it won't be MY problem!
Some of the reasons you listed are why I went with an XL. I could have easily afforded an XLT trim but just couldn't justify it. The Xl fits my needs. I also have an Explorer that I generally use as a daily driver plus I'll have my 2004 F150 Heritage XLT for another year and a half. Promised it to my grandson when he gets his license. That's why I bought a new one. Hope to have this new one paid of in 2 years when I retire.
