Got a big tow coming up and between the heat the country is having now and the mountains we'll be crossing, wondering about gauge choice.

Currently, oil pressure, coolant temp, turbos and fuel.

I like the turbos showing, so I can try to stay out of them but thinking trans temp should go there this time.

I would turn Oil Pressure into Trans temp. If the oil pressure is above, I think 10 or 15 PSI or so, the gauge sits in the middle. These trucks have a 2 stage oil pump. The oil pressure can get as high as 95 PSI, I believe. Your gauge would still be in the middle. The truck will alarm if your oil pressure drops. Trans temp I can watch it start climbing and do something before it gets too hot.

I would go with obdlink MX+ and use your phone. Pardon the somewhat unfinished look on the gauges (I'm in the middle of playing with how I want it to look). You can see actual temps, not just what the dummy gauge shows you. (Unless you use FORScan to enable engine and trans temp on the 12" display)

Any truck that any manufacturer builds with any tow package should have the trans temp available for display somewhere without extracurricular means.

Tend to agree, but at least tranny temp is available via menu configuration. IMO it's a 'miss' that Ford doesn't enable 'real number' digital temps by default on all trims and thank goodness for FORScan, at least that's a one-and-done extracurricular means.

Using a phone (or ScanGauge, or whatever) as an external display just doesn't cut it for me any more .... BTDT with the 2005 F150, not going there with the '22.

I'm so thankful that with the Ford Accessory trailer TPMS & Cam I have NO tacky external displays / cables to mess with - everything wanted to monitor my towing rig is wonderfully fully integrated in OE displays (y)

I miss the option I had on my 12, I could actually get a screen with the tranny temp in real numbers which was nice on long tows.
Amen. My 2014 XLT had the same thing. Why does Ford do such stupid things like taking away a valuable piece of info.

On order ‘22 RCSB.
Agreed, big miss with this gen. My sons 2017 will display trans temp whenever desired.
On the 14 gen there is an engineering mode that can be entered (like previous gens) and trans temp is one of the items you can view. I dont remember if it is in F or C though.

Is the option to display tranny temp not available at all on trims without 12" IPC display?

I think you can enable it on the 8” but my basic XL, 4.2” screen, only has the dummy gauges. There isnt a place to display numbers associated with the analog gauges on the small cluster.

Has to be the 12 inch. I tried on my 22 with 8 inch can’t get numbers to display. I can have the basic dummy style, better than nothing. Wish I could get temps that would be nice

I tried the forscan changes but didn’t work. Then I asked and was told not on 8 inch.
