Same here, never had a failure on these on any of our 120+ vehicles in the work fleet. I just added one to my PB this past Saturday.
Just did mine too but only because the Talon cat. Plate Instructions suggested it. I did opt for the adapter.

Hey guys,

I am getting ready to put on the Talon's CAT/Skid plate as well on my PB. Fumoto said get the "short nipple" if it is feasible, otherwise get the long nipple.

Should I go with the short or long one?

The Fumoto is a tried and true option and either nipple will work fine. I would probably lean towards the small nipple if it is long enough to slide to hose on. My thinking is the less there is to take a hit, the better.

Also look at this option:

ValvoMax Oil Drain System

This has not been around as long as the Fumoto but it looks nice too. I will be trying this when I do my first oil change and then attach my Talons cat plate.

The thing that bothers me about both of these, is that they wouldn't let as much of the old oil drain out as an open hole.

It is definitely going to be slower and not as thorough. Make sure you open the oil fill cap to let air in and that might help but it is not the fastest way to go. However if you have a cat plate, it will be significantly cleaner.

I just hope the oil filter doesn't make a huge mess or if it does, I can figure out a way to add some guide to help keep it cleaner.

I finally got mine installed. I have a full skid plate package, so this valve is the difference between "oil goes everywhere/20 minutes of wrenching the transmission plate off" vs "oil drains out the hose into my pan". If you have skid plates you need this part. The benefit is so substantial that I might email Talons and suggest that they include these valves as part of their packages as an option.

Frequent oil/fluid changes are one of the few levers we can pull to make our trucks last longer. For a lot of folks, the time/money cost results in "prolonged service intervals". Upgrades which allow us to quickly and easily perform basic maintenance ourselves can drastically reduce that time and money cost, resulting in cheap, fast and easy maintenance.
