I have a '24 F150 and '22 Expedition. Lately, both trucks have been getting some Powertrain Malfunction / Reduced Power warnings in the FordPass app, along with a wrench lighting up in the dash. They usually last a day or so and then clear on their own.

I've been thinking of buying an ODB adapter and setting up FORScan to check these issues out. My question is what I can do with these codes within FORScan? Am I only able to see what's going on? Or do I have the ability to update or do anything to fix the modules having issues and save myself a dealership trip?

I’m no expert in Forscan but I’ve used it to get the codes and then Google them to see what info I can find. So it’s worth getting the OBD adapter to give you some insight to what’s happening.

As for updates you’ll need FDRS for that.

I have a 23’ XLT that’s in the shop right now, it was giving me the same “Powertrain malfunction/ Reduced power” codes. Service manager just called me and set it needs a new gear shifter module. Same thing happened just a little over a year ago and they replaced the gear shifter module back then. There is apparently a new updated part available now to fix the problem. Of course I have to bring the truck back in a week to have the part installed.

Howdy - my '23 Lariat PB went under the knife today. Same message as @zzzilb & @RailRider56.

Four days ago I was driving back from Lowes and the truck stalled out when I came to a stop. I was able to restart but it was truly in a "reduced power" mode and would only get up to ~20 MPH, fortunately I was only 3 miles from home.

I have a BT monitor on my battery system and the app reported low cranking voltage (~5.3 V). From what I gleaned from the forum here and based on advice/experience from other posters, it seemed wise to replace the Main and Auxiliary 12V AGM batteries. I reset the BMS; did a test drive and the truck ran as normal but I still had the Powertrain and "Schedule Service" alerts. There is an open recall (Campaign 24E04) for the Power Control Module so I decided to take it into Ford to have a look at the Powertrain situation anyway and address the recall.

Usually I would prefer to investigate it further to see if I can diagnose it (possibly resolve), but time is limited at the moment so off to Ford I went. We will see what they come back with....
