Anyone have any word on using the vehicle's touch-screen display with external device? This would be rather handy to have. Emphasis added in regards to using it as an input device.

It looks like they are running on Android. Hamburger menu at top left.
Special version of Android Auto?

Not android auto -- it's switching over fully to 'something'. Looks like a separate device running android, while also maintaining touch interface. When it's in that mode, the screen is being run by the external device's output while also receiving touch input. I'd really like to be able to take control of the touch-screen monitor.

Hrm, is there perhaps a PID for x,y coordinates of the screen?

Yeah, sorry that is what I meant the external device appears to be running Android.
Possibly a modified version of Android Auto with custom app support or something entirely different.
It's like using the big screen as a giant tablet and that is awesome.

The 23 Superduty has a Upfitter modules controlled by the touch screen. You can customize the outputs. I was looking to add it to my SD but I dont really know what I would use it for.

That sounds cool and also not really useful. ?

I also have no need for extra switches at moment.

Nice, ya that is what I was first thinking of when I saw this thread. I know they introduced something like that, customizable auxiliary functions, but that's all I've heard of it thus far. Haven't seen anyone put it into action.

@HammaMan looks like they are just running a custom Android APIM software I imagine, especially if they are working with Ford on it, and you can even tell how laggy the vertical screen is in the video as well... ?

Give me Android APIM and side loading apps. ?

Hard to tell in short video but it does look like it is switching to an Android interface but still using the OEM touchscreen.

So it is an input from an external source... Interesting indeed.

SYNC Integration Module

Ford engineers spent time visiting blue light services to find out what staff really wanted from a vehicle. One key complaint was the amount of additional equipment that was needed on the front windscreen, or attached to the dashboard for things like navigation and the multi-data terminal that displays information about the callouts they’re heading to.

The solution was a SYNC integration module, developed by Ford Pro’s Digital Integration Services Team, that allows the vehicle’s SYNC screen to switch from the normal customer view to an input view from the ambulance service computer fitted in the boot, giving paramedics the information they need about the job they are going to and how to get there. This reduces clutter inside the vehicle, provides a large screen view and is significantly more cost-effective than adding additional equipment. It also means no additional holes are needed to be cut into the dashboard and is easily removable at the end of the vehicle’s time in service.
