I'm getting ready to purchase my first F150.

I want to get a Ford Protect warranty and I am having trouble deciding on what package to purchase.

Should I only look at a $0 deductible?

I was thinking 10 yr 125k or 150k.

Also, is there anything that voids a Ford Protect warranty?

Random example, I forgot to change my oil or some fluid and that causes a part to fail. Will Ford turn me away?

What warranty package should I go with?

Thanks!

Premium Care with LED light coverage.

I went with a $100 deductible.
So that would mean that every time I would need to bring it into the shop to have an issue addressed, I would have to pay them $100?

After your factory warranties are up, yes.

I figured, if I can fix it myself for less than $100, I will. If I can't, I'll pay and bring it in.

Yes, if it is covered under warranty. Most things are, but wear items like brake pads, rubber hoses, etc are not. There is a big long list when you look at the PremiumCare warranty info of what is covered.

Shop online Ziegler Granger etc to save money.

When your headlights are 1k a piece, 100$ all of a sudden doesn't seem to bad.

Remember that its not going to always avoid diagnostic fees and initial troubleshooting cost until they identify it as a warrantied part. Not the end of the world or anything close but it's not always just 100% clear and cut.

Still absolutely worth it these days with the insane cost of repair and the increasing amount of tech these trucks have.

If you show up with the engine seized and the oil has the viscosity of chunky molasses in January and is blacker than a black hole, yeah, they won't cover that....

A tune will void the engine and trans for sure. A lift kit could void some suspension parts, u-joints, bearings. It all depends on what you do and what else that mod affects directly.

Let's say you lift or lower the truck, and your u-joints go bad, Ford/the dealer, will probably not fix it "under warranty". But if your timing chain breaks or your alternator goes bad, that would still be covered since the lift/lowering is not directly connected to that failure.

All those things need to be proven that they were the cause of failure regardless of how close they may be to the issue.

For me $100 is the sweet spot. It's really a time and money thing for you, as well as your local dealer. Any part that's in the $100 range I can swap myself without much fuss, I'm sure as hell not dancing with a dealer over. It's just not worth the entire fiasco that dealing with a dealer brings. When part costs alone get to the $200ish + range that's where the decision begins to manifest (or more teardown is required). I can halfass assemble the truck complete with grease marks myself as good as any dealer, if such is the desired outcome.

It'd be great if ford would step up the program to basically waive the deductible for self-install / part swap in lieu of labor costs. Especially if the vehicle is operational and can stay within my possession while ford parts plays their games. Sure a lot of dealers would cry about such a program but it just makes sense. Upping their game in the mobile mechanic program would also be a welcome solution. Between the baked in telemetry combined with ai on the horizon and enhanced OTA, we could be looking at a radically different self-service process in the not too distant future. Just need to crack the augmented reality glasses that could walk just about anyone through a basic part swap to really one-up the whole self-service process.

The biggest thing you need to look at is how long you plan to keep the truck and how many miles a year you drive. If you drive 20k miles a year after 5 years you will have 100k miles. If you get a 10 year 100k miles warranty you will run out the miles after 5 years so paying for the 10 years was a waste. This is the balance you need to determine.

I also agree that the $100 deductible was the sweet spot for overall cost. Go here and enter in your data and you will get a wonderful spreadsheet with the cost for all the deductibles and years and miles and you can easily compare the effect each move will have on the overall cost.

Good luck.

Also, just so you know, the ESP starts the day you get the truck. Not when you go out of warranty.

The $100 package looks great. I was just worried about how fast or how many times I would have to pay for a repeat problem.

Example:
Truck has a problem with ______. I bring the truck in, they identify the problem, fix it, and I pay $100.
Week or two later, I experience a similar issues, they find the problem, fix it, another $100.

This goes on and on, etc.

Am I stuck paying $100 each time?

Yes, that is exactly how it works. I personally will not be getting it on my '24 simply because I can source a replacement part using the internet and doing the work myself.

Im getting one from Granger in September, before my OEM runs out.
I figure best plan, $100 deductible and 100K miles. I will have maybe 30K by then...so 70K worth of bumper to bumper.

If it's the same problem, I would complain that they didn't fix it the first time and the first $100 deductible should apply. The dealer should agree with that. If it's a different problem, then a different $100 deductible should apply. You should agree with that.
