Ford Maintenace Plan - worth it?

Im guessing they would be for synthetic blend, every 8000 KM? Which is around $100 so 15 changes x $100 = $1500. Plus 2 brake fluid changes ($190x2), couple engine fitters ($30x 2 cabin filters, a few cabin filter changes ($116x 3)Spark plug change (around $300), and brake pad change, maybe another $500. So Total maybe just above $3k including the brake pads. So i think you save a bit upfront if you want to go with the dealer, but what happens if you trade/sell early, or write off?

Getting the pay as you got numbers from https://www.downtownford.ca/ServicePortal, Would need to confirm with dealer.

For DIY, I got around $1500. I haven't got numbers from local indy shop yet, so not sure what they would charge.

A few more thoughts:
  • If you opt for the 5,000-mile interval "Severe Duty Maintenance Item Coverage" is included. This could be a plus if you regularly pull a travel trailer and/or run the truck off-road (or other dusty environments).
  • The plan is transferrable if you sell the car/truck, which should help the resale value.
  • Synthetic blend is standard, with full synthetic as an extra cost option.

Originally, I bought a Premium Maintenance plan from Zeigler for 100,000 miles at the 7500 mile interval with the full synthetic option. That was $1950. If you call and pay in full they will give a better price than shown on their website.

Then recently (at 5000 miles) I called them back and changed my plan to 100,000 miles at the 5000 mile interval and dropped the full synthetic option. This was an additional $195, or $2145 total.

Because we regularly boondock (aka dry camping off-road) with our trailer I wanted to pick-up the severe duty maintenance items, and felt comfortable with synthetic blend changed out every 5000 miles.

It was very easy working with Zeigler.

Sounds to me like you were quoted the service plan for maintenance only. The EWP plan that covers the electronics and such, I was quoted just over $4000.00 for 7year 150,000km. I am gong to buy this plan, just because of all the electronics and hopefully be able to keep getting the updates as needed. Was told, how correct it is, but the 12" center screen is around $3K alone from Ford. Would I buy electronics for scrap yard? To me it would be a hard sell.
Mind if I ask which dealer gave you that quote for $4K?

Sounds like a total rip off to me but I’m doing my own oil changes. They run me about $40 using quality synthetic oil and filter every 5 to 6000 miles. I guess at $1,800 it would be a wash for those who get their oil changes at the dealer ??‍♂. They just prepay for it but I don’t understand how it’s a good deal at almost 2k. Every Discount Tire will rotate your tires for free and if you want you can purchase a warranty on your stock tires. It also comes with free balance and flat repair.
If there’s trans fluid, coolant, brake fluid, diff service, TC, air filters etc included it might be worth it but all I hear is oil changes and tire rotations.

I purchased both the Premium Maintenance plan and Extended PremiumCare Warranty when I purchased my 2021 F150 in February. In my opinion, both are smart to purchase, but only if the price is right.

I think the $2,800 they are trying to charge you is a bit steep. I only paid $1,420 for my 6 year/75,000 miles premium plan, and at 0% interest. With everything it provides below, it was a no brainer for me.

Also, I personally like having the peace of mind knowing my vehicle is being inspected by Ford each time Its taken in for routine maintenance. Another perk I believe the plan provides and that most people overlook is that you receive record from Ford of each service they provided. If you decide to sell your truck down the road, these records will help in the sale. Would you rather buy a used truck from the dude who claims he properly maintained his truck in his driveway, or from the guy who is able to provide you with all his maintenance records from Ford? Another no brainer for me. Lol

But again, only if they work with you on the price. In my opinion, $2,800 is a bit high, especially with interested being tacked on.

Get it down a bit, and it will be worth every penny!

I wouldn’t want to wait for Ford’s recommended service interval. All the manufacturers have been extending their service intervals and touting ‘sealed’ ‘maintenance free’ shit like transmissions that no longer have dipsticks to trick customers into believing their vehicles are cheaper to own. The spark plug intervals are a joke too, you generally start getting driveability issues caused by the plugs being worn out 10K miles before the plug interval is reached.



I just had a fight with a Toyota dealership that didn’t want to lubricate the prop shaft grease fittings on a 4Runner, even though it was recommended in the manual for the off-road mileage the SUV had and it was supposedly covered by the Toyota factory service plan that all their new vehicles come with whether you want it or not.

Even if I didn’t work on my own vehicles, I wouldn’t pay for service in advance. Especially if I would then need their permission to do the service I had already paid for.

I have had cars with the original brake pads go past 100K miles. My first truck would go through front brakes every 10-20K miles and not only the pads but the discs too. My second truck would need front brakes every 30K miles but the rear drums were constantly going out of round so I would change those out too. I also like a nice firm pedal, so I change my pads when they are 50% worn and do a full brake bleed. A lot of dealership flat rate techs will just suck the old brake fluid out of the reservoir pour in the new stuff and call it done to beat the book rate and make more money.

I’m glad you’re happy with this deal.
Based on what you posted you get 10 oil changes and tire rotations for $142.20 per service. The rest of it is probably a visual inspection of your brakes or coolant hoses etc. Very expensive in my opinion and way to starched out at 7,500 mile intervals.
I maintain my own records. I keep them in a dedicated folder for each vehicle, they include detailed descriptions, receipts and pictures. In addition to that I keep a small note book in my glove box for a quick reference. Basically any time I touch my truck it’s being noted to include things like tire pressure checks.
Every vehicle I’ve owned in the past I sold by owner and every time the buyer was impressed with my own maintenance records.

Off course I, understand that what I’m doing may sound like a major PITA for a lot of people, in those cases pre-paid maintenance plans may be desirable.

I agree. Those plans usually have a bunch of strings attached.
I personally wouldn’t want some random Joe Schmo who was flipping burgers at the local BK last week but today is a “certified” Ford technician do my oil change.
No doubt there’s a lot of talented mechanics working at dealerships but those are not the guys doing the “oil change specials” ?
