All,
I just finished watching Robert Llewellyn interview with Ford’s CEO Jim Farley and I have to say I feel Ford is on the right hands.
Did you know Jim Farley worked a long time at Toyota?

What are your thoughts about this interview focused on electric vehicles.

Nobody around here is going to say a good word about Farley.

It's pretty much a nag-forum and the CEO is responsible for your axle bolt shearing on your Powerboost even though Ford still doesn't sell a single vehicle that was designed during his tenure. ???

The last CEO I sort of liked at Ford was Mark Fields, not a fan of Farley.
I couldn’t stand fields. He was so full of shit, he’s a marketing guy that became CEO. He kinda reminded me of Michael Scott in that he would say what people wanted to hear just to generate buzz and make them happy with no real basis to any of his “commitments”. I worked ford Ford when he was there and he constantly over promised and underdelivered on Fords behalf.

I just realized I was confusing Mark Fields with Alan Mulally. That’s the guy I liked. He brought a lot of cool products on board during his tenure (Raptor, 6.2L V8, 5.0L, 3.5 EB) etc and helped save ford from the 2008 market collapse. Feel like Farley is just a reactive follower.

I can't stand Farley, but liked Fields and Mullaly.

Farley can't steer the company through challenge and has failed to do so many things including secure supply chains, maintain quality, and improve customer relationships. I appreciate the attempts to secure the EV market, but doing so with the size of the negative margins he's approving in his strategy is unmistakeably bad work. While the cost of ICE cars goes up while removing features, EVs go down despite never making margins to begin with? Fuck you too.

All of the shortages / deletes / delays occurred over 3 years and were very much on his watch. The fact they're still building "platinums" today with their cute badges and missing features -- that's all on him.

Every CEO at every manufacturer was unable to prevent the impact of the worldwide pandemic.

I'm sure some did better, some did worse. But a CEO is one man. None appeared to have had a magic wand.

The CEO is the Chief Executive Officer. They are the "one" that should be leading the ship. If the ship is sinking, it is squarely the CEO's fault. I'm tired of the excuses and the interviews. Allen Mullaley could lead and did.

My wife reminded me of an old saying, if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything. Enough said.

In Farley's commitment for transparency, he decided to report profit and loss of the different businesses. Unfortunately the expected early losses in EVs give fodder to bears betting against Ford shares. I'd be willing to bet other Legacy auto companies currently have similar if not greater EV losses. The other units are performing quite well. Many of the recalls should be blamed on engineering and to some extent production workers that either turn a blind eye to potential issues or are ignored by higher ups when bringing up issues. Mary Barra has been CEO of GM for nearly 10 years and it's shares are still below her first day's price. Farley is not going anywhere.

I have no opinion on "Farley" although I have developed a DEEP DISADAIN for Ford Motor Company and I guess the “buck stops” on his desk.

That said… Farley inherited a shit-show that got hit by a hurricane. I really don’t think that even had he known what was coming, he could have done anything about it.

And given the state of the supply chain of the entire (well, almost) Auto Industry, I don’t think that there is much he can really do about it now while trying to compete.

My only complaint with Ford (and I guess Farley) is Ford’s horrible, non-existent, “give us your money and now fuck-off” Customer Service.

They have (HAD) a loyal following but “loyalty” is a two-way street and they have failed miserably in fostering that built-in loyalty to turn it into repeat customers.

Since the 1st new Ford I purchased in 1998, EVERY new vehicle I have purchased in my life has been a Ford.

Now… If Ford was the only car company, I’d ride my bike to work before I’d ever buy another Ford product!
