So Ford has reached out and asked if I am interested in a buy back for my truck due to the various issues its had (currently awaiting a new heat exchanger). Has anyone gone through the process that can shed some light on how it works?

Do they buyback purchase price or some reduced value due to mileage/use?
I'm assuming that aftermarket parts wouldn't be included?

What are the lemon laws in your state?

I've been through this in Texas back in 2006 with GM. They gave me 2 options. 1) Buy back was purchase price minus something like 15 cents/mile. No refund on taxes or 2) A credit (including taxes) toward any other GM car sitting on a lot

I went with 2 because I wasn't about to eat the taxes. Not sure how it will go down for you.

I went through something similar with a '14 Jeep Grand Cherokee back in 2014. I emailed my repair logs to an attorney, she reviewed them and sent a letter to Chrysler asking for a full purchase price + the cost of the new tires I had put on day 1, or replace with an identical vehicle...my preference was replacement. They settled and custom ordered me a 2015 with the same options as the 14 stock order since there was nothing similar available. I continued to drive the 14 for a couple months while waiting for the build. It didn't cost me anything aside from the time and headaches. The first day my Jeep was towed to the dealer was the day I put the license plates on. By the time we were done I think I gave them an almost year old Jeep with over 10k miles. That replacement is what I just traded in on my 22 Powerboost.

One apparently little know thing is that with Magnusson Moss attorney fees can be included if you prevail, which is why they settle. Most state lemon laws don't allow for that.

I just had something similar. I had many fit and finish issues with my ‘21, it was in the shop nearing 8 weeks. Still couldn’t fix some things or get parts. I proposed to the dealer to order me a ‘22 and be generous with the trade so I wasn’t out much money. They reached out to Ford who kicked in 7k on the deal. In the end I traded and ended up about the same as I was in the ‘21, but now start over on miles, tires, etc.

I am three months into the process and probably will not accept the offer. Out of 27 dealers contacted in Texas, 27 dealers said they do not participate in the Ford Buy Back program. I bought a 2021 Platinum and I cannot get into the same vehicle given the price increases and Fair market Adjustments. I would review the Lemmon Law for your state and look into legal options. Good records are key.

Thanks for all of the info guys. I doubt I'll head down the buyback path at this point as I just have too much invested in the truck that it wouldn't make economic sense.

Now back to the Mega Heat Exchanger thread to somewhat patiently wait for updates on the part . . .

I stumbled across this as I was trying to find some information on how much the rebate Ford offers during a buyback. I wanted to share that even if you go the route of the "buyback" process and they determine it is a lemon, there's another option that you may be interested in. One of the choices we had was to take a cash settlement (5700) and an extended warranty to keep the vehicle. If you plan on keeping your vehicle, that may be of interest to you.
