Also, with everything taken a part, I did a quick drive around the block with the new shifter plugged in before I completed the install. I recommend this.

Also, here's a quick little piece of advice. Try to shoot the paint in 3 stages and don't overspray like I did. You can hot box it with a blow dryer and a box. Or oven at 170 degrees (but I didn't want to stink the house up).

In my opinion Satin Black will be awesome. Also, did you have to remove the AC panel to get the shifter out?
In my case I removed it but did not check if I can get the shifter out without removing the AC panel.

Guys, I want this mod and have always thought that center mounted shifters, unless in a manual transmission car (RIP), are just insanely stupid and in the way.

I read the entire thread and already ordered the Expedition shifter.

Next I need to order the trim piece.

I've stayed away from this thread for months because it frustrates me so much, but every now and then the forum tricks me into clicking on it. I still do not understand the love for the etsy bin versus the one I designed. I simply cannot see how this is acceptable on a $40K-$80K truck:

Even after all the sanding and painting you put in, there are visible flaws on the surface:

The issue isn't with the the guy on etsy and how he prints it, or with his printer. The issue is with the design, It cannot be printed with the visible parts flat on the print bed.

I designed mine as a two piece unit so that the cover facing the driver is flat on the print bed and gets a perfect finish. Yes you have to cut the tabs off of the shifter, but is trimming a few plastic tabs on shifter that has negligible cost compared to the truck really that big of an issue for a cleaner install?

You are totally right. Your design is perfect and clean but in my case I am using the car a lot in desert on a high speed and bumps always so am afraid the magnet will not handle the hard bumps that is the issue.
If you could design the expedition shifter I will be honest to be the first one who buy it and advertise too.

Yea, I know you have a special use case, we discussed it in DM. Now I see your location it triggers my memory. But not many people are out ramping sand dunes like you are.

In the effort of sharing ideas across forums, here's my version from my lightning. I prefer hardwired usb with a magsafe holder...and wanted it to extend upwards but also stow for the work table (when FORScan/FDRS).

Had to poke an additional hole in the front slider cubby where the usb connections are.

Share the model for this phone holder please.

In my case, I had NO IDEA that you had made one. Had I known, I likely would have tried to get you to make me one. I still might, actually, if you can make one for the select shifter as seen in my photo.

I will add that my photo looks like poo because screwed up with the initial paint. I used Hammered Spray paint, and it made it muddled and then didn't cure correctly. I needed my truck and couldn't wait so I just sprayed another coat of matte and installed it. I figured it was easy enough to take out and do it again.

Can you make one with a selector shifter or do you have a design for that?

I don't really need the phone mount though. I find the OffRoam phone holder that mounts onto the air vent to be spectacular and keeps your eyes on the road. Rather than looking down by the armrest if something is incoming. It's solid aluminum and doesn't so much as jiggle over potholes. Really a fantastic design and a 5 second install.

Funny how different things have appeal to different people. I moved into an F-150 from a Maverick. I hated the dial shifter, and there are guys on the Mav forum putting F-150 shifters in their trucks.

Yes I did. But I didn't fully disconnect and you shouldn't either. The one downside was the piece of trim that connects to the push-button start....you have to remove this to unscrew the radio/HVAC panel. However, you do not need to completely remove it....it looks time-consuming, just get the pull tabs to release and then an 8mm nut driver should reach the 4 bolts at the top.

Perhaps of interest, this YouTube video shows the steps to remove the console shifter very clearly, you may be able to get by with less trim-removal for your mod using this as a guide

Is TRON still an issue on 2024 models? The number one thing I hate about my truck is the shifter. I would love to do this.
