dang that's unfortunate.. as I would gladly mount this in a custom enclosure where my drive mode selector is.. and then 3d print a replacement media bin so that I can keep my differential lock in there.. As mine is 2wd hardly ever need to touch it..
It would never fit where the drive mode selector or pro trailer backup assist knobs are. The knob is slightly larger but underneath the cover The rest of the shift knob assembly is way too large to fit in the dash.

I wanted to convert to column shift too but with the electric adjust steering column it can’t be done without replacing the column to a manual adjust.
My superduty has electric adjust column and the column shift
Not sure how different it is from f150

@Ajzride - My compliments to you on engineering a great mod! I think this is VERY cool that you are exploring this and reporting your results! Personally, I'm not really a fan of rotary gear selectors, but that doesn't matter - many, many people are, and my likes/dislikes are not relevant to my point here. People like you exploring making different mods and reporting the successes are one of the elements that make this a great forum. Nice job! Wish you continued success!

I had been knocking around the idea of replacing my folding shifter with a rotary knob for almost 4 years, since my first folding shifter went bad and the vehicle had to be towed for a replacement. The lightning guys beat me to it, and about a dozen of those guys have swapped theirs out already. They buy a rotary knob online and 3D print an assembly to go into the hole left by the shifter, which then holds the knob. One of the lightning guys sent me a kit for the swap since I had helped him with some other stuff. The version I have is from a Bronco Sport, so it doesn't have the shift +/- buttons, but I have never used those anyway.

It's about a 45-minute swap, and you have to pull off a bunch of trim panels, but there are only 8 bolts in total (4 on the shifter and 4 small ones holding the AC controls to the dash), It's a straight plug-and-play swap so you can put it back anytime you want.

Someone is sending me an expedition rotary knob with the +/- buttons, and I will be able to modify the 3D-printed parts to accept the bigger knob.

Overall I'm extremely happy, there is so much more room in the console area now, and it is easier to access the AC knobs, storage, and cup holders.

For those of you who are pushing the payload limits, there is a 5.1-pound weight reduction for the swap.

As I foolishly told my wife that I'm done with mods, I see this tread and the dollars will be flying out of my hand like I'm at a gentleman's club

Well, unlike at the gentlemen's club, you CAN touch all you want in your truck.

Totally separate animals. I have a thread on this and some of the most knowledgeable guys chipped in. The superduty uses actual linkage to the transmission so it’s a totally different column and shifter mounting.

trying to find my adult calipers, overall case length is roughly 136mm

I can measure anything else you want too

We mainly need the 4 mounting holes center to center (left to right and top to bottom) and the length and width looking from the top. Trying to ensure it will fit inside the already-designed 3D cubby.

It might require a complete rework of the cad file. Looks like the opneing is 85mm wide x 100mm long.

Makes sense as to why it wouldn’t fit there

now I kinda want a tray that would go across the bottom of the screen with inserts fit for fast food condiments and drinks / tray space with cup holders expanded / flat inserts for the cup holder (make a really nice large mouse pad with the console lid as arm support)

(as my truck doesn’t have the work surface I could be happy having it go forward and expand out over my leg some)

Idea being that if the gear shifter could be on a tray mechanism so it can sit down low there in the pocket of the GSM, or it could be lifted out and put into the side of the large platform easily.. (pardon my chicken scratch hot pink coloring trying to show what it could sorta look like) (and covering the temp sensors wouldn’t be an issue with unreal theme on screen)
