Reading specs is like reading labels on food boxes and bottles... Only the few and proud do so... :)

I had similar plans until I found that PUP did not have the Ford spec WSS-M2C961-A1 so I went with Valvoline Restore and Protect...
It does now, as of Sept. See the tech data sheet ^^

Something I read about Pennzoil not really wanting to pay for that certification test or something like that for a while? I don't remember.

PUP is what I used at first. But my oil change warning would come on well before I hit my typical interval of 5k miles; I use e85 most of the time. But now I've switched to Mobil 1 Extended Performance with Liqui-Moly MOS2 (after using Liqui-Moly Ceratec on the preceding oil change). We'll see what happens once I near 5k again.

The maintenance notification or oil change warning doesn't analyze the oil. It is based on time, miles driven, and a few other driving metrics, not the quality of the oil. The system would not know the difference between not changing the oil and resetting the warning and changing the oil and resetting the warning.

See Ford's description.

I've no doubt that's the case for many oils. Ya just don't know for sure until they do it.

Good on Pennzoil, finally! (y)

I change my own oil, from I have seen.
Dealerships put the new guy on oil changes.
I went on my ford pass.
Couldn't find how to add my own maintenance.

I changed to Vavoline Restore & Protect at my 2nd oil change (10k miles). I know it’s probably premature to use this oil but my engine seems smoother. Maybe better to use this oil early on to keep engine internals clean.

You are in “protect” mode…….nothing at all wrong with that. I think it’s smart

Seems that there may be some confusion about there being a requirement that we have to use motor oil that "specifies" that it meets Fords WSS M2C961-A/A1 certification/spec to protect us from warranty coverage issues. I don't believe that to be necessarily true.

Below is caption from my previous post on this question about having to use motor oil with the Ford WSS-M2C961-A/A1 certification listed on it (see that previous post for more detailed explanation on why I believe the current API and ISLAC standards trumps/exceeds the Ford spec and that this belief is based on statements made in Ford's F-150 owner's manual and knowledge gained from others about the API certification)...

It seems that, while ideal for piece of mind, Ford doesn't actually require you to use either their "recommended" Motorcraft oil or one that specifically states that it meets the Ford WSS M2C961-A/A1 spec (certification). They say to "use motor oils of the recommended viscosity grade that display the API Certification Mark for gasoline engines."

I have only used Liqui Moly oils for years on my vehicles, it is great stuff. Now use Liqui Moly Molygen 5w30 in the 22 Aviator and my 22 Tremor. Meets Ford's requirements and lifetime warranty on the oil for moneyback each oil change. FCP Euro for the win!

You are certainly welcome to your opinion and using what ever oil you like.

Personally, it’s not that hard to find a QUALITY oil that meets Ford’s spec. I sure as hell wouldn’t run an oil that does not meet their recommended specs.

Oil is cheap…..engines aren’t.
