I was told that it is a sensor for the auto leveling headlights.

Doesn't scales require CCD?
Regardless, It is your rear height sensor.

If you have CCD, the height sensor is encased in the rear shock housing.

I recently added air suspension from ReadyLift (documented here) and I do have that sensor. I do not have CCD (ReadyLift says its for CCD but it's also for non-CCD; in that case it's for headlight leveling.)

ReadyLift sold me a bracket that relocated this sensor but their bracket isn't exactly right and my headlights are high, causing others to flash their lights at me.

The air springs are wonderful though.
