Has anybody replaced these yet on our gen of truck and is it possible to delete this system with the old Dorman kits or not? Replaced a cv axle and still not getting my 4x4 working with intermittent grinding noises while in 2wd, switch to 4h and the sound magically disappears I’m assuming when axle broke it damaged the hub accuators in the process

From what I've read, the later '22+ Lariats and higher trims w/ the TOD transfer case don't come with EIWEs anymore. I haven't seen anyone here do a delete yet, but in theory it should be possible to swap in Lariat hubs (and maybe some supporting parts). You would almost certainly need to make changes in forscan to disable the missing EIWEs.

Retired and not looking. I am driving the wife crazy.
One reason why I am on these forums it to learn new things. This is cram packed with new things. I probably have one, so I can learn something. I have a 21 Lariat F150 4WD

What is EIWE?

What is a TOD Transfer case?

I at least know Dorman well, but not what the kits are for.

I thank both of you in advance for your schooling.

EIWE refers to the electric IWEs used in the '21+ trucks vs the vacuum-actuated ones used for a long time in the earlier trucks.

14th gen transfer cases come in 3 flavors:
- Electronic Shift-on-the-fly (ESOF): traditional mechanically-locking 4x4 used in the XL-XLT trims with 4H, 4L, and 2H
- Torque on Demand (TOD): used in Lariat and higher trims, uses clutches to engage the transfer case and allows for 4Auto in addition to the usual 4H/4L modes.
-High-lock: used in the Raptor and high trim Tremor, similar to the TOD but uses a mechanical locking mechanism to allow 4A via clutches but mechanically locks for 4H/4L = best of both worlds.

Thank you for the explanation. It stirred up a question. I have a 21 F150 Lariat 4wd. It has a 4Auto position. I have never really figured out what that is for. I had a 2011 GMC Yukon Denali XL that had all wheel drive. I had no control over anything. It was full time AWD.

Does it act like a full time all wheel drive setting? Set it in 4auto and forget it, like my old GMC, which was automatically set to "you ain't got no choice" mode? Or do we have something more complicated going on with Ford?

The auto kicks in when it feels the truck losing traction. It is not on all the time like your GMC.

I've never driven a 4A truck, but my understanding is that in Auto mode the truck will normally drive around using the rear wheels and engage the transfer case via the clutches when slippage is detected. You can use 4A on dry pavement whereas for the standard 4H you shouldn't.

The main downside to the TOD transfer case is during heavy off-roading it's possible to overheat the clutches, causing you to lose 4wd. For most people that's not an issue though.

Thanks every one for the help. It seems that running around in 4A is not a bad thing. Standard 2wd truck ride until things begin to happen. Then 4A kicks in.
