Different strokes.

We sanitize the system, at least annually and as mentioned, dose it for long term water storage. Nothing goes in, without first passing through a 2 stage filter of 20 um, then 1 um. Drinking water then goes through a Brita and stored in the fridge. The Wife is in charge of that, I forget which filter she uses but we've had no issues with illness, drinking the water from wherever we were.
I just have the blue Camco in line filter.

We have the blue Camco outside as well, but then use a Berkey system inside for drinking water and coffee makings, etc.

So much to figure out.

Looking into Starlink and Peplink and WAN solutions. I am going to use SimpliSafe for security because I know it well.

I also feel like I'm stuck between the chicken and the egg.... We don't do off grid camping so we're not set up to do it. Since we don't do off grid we don't get setup to do it.
That is an astute way of putting it.

Yeah I'd like to be a little bit more capable to be off grid but the kids still use too much water for that.
There is a way around that and you could include the kids to help.

We have 3, 5gal water jugs and I made a transfer pump kit (optional) to load more fresh water, without breaking camp.

Then a 27gal waste toter and a hoist, to get it in the truck, in case the dump station was far.

We can usually do all the site seeing (+ groceries, laundry and maybe a lay around day) we need of an area, in 5-6 days, so haven't had to use the toter yet but we have used the jugs a couple times.

We just hot spot from our phones for internet (T Mobil, unlimited hot spotting). The couple times we couldn't get signal, used the hot spot in the truck. So far, thats been all we've needed.

As for security, a can of bear / mountain lion spray, mounted next to the door.

We have, and have actually used our bear spray.
We’re also with T-Mobile, so that’s encouraging.

I’m likely falling into the rookie over prepare the wrong way trap 😂

The security was to set off a siren if some yahoo pries open a storage compartment, window or door. Bear spray is after the siren and before the carbine.

Rookie over thinking in the driveway lol

Yeah, there are things you really do need and things you'll want but you can spend a bunch of doh and storage / weight on things you'll never use.

I ran through our list recently.

A big, campsite rug, has never been used. They're actually prohibited on grass. We get along fine with a coarse, welcome mat type, at the steps.

A light I thought I'd use in the outside kitchen, hasn't even been mounted yet.

Since you'll probably be at full hook ups more than we are, you'll probably use it but a sewer hose prop, has only been used once.

That’s actually a pretty small list 😊

I want to try both hookups and boondocking here locally during the winter, and see what our strengths and weaknesses are.

Fresh water = 44 gallons
Grey and black = 39 gallons each
Propane = 41lbs
4k inverter generator with 40 gallons of fuel available before cutoff.

Ours is 40 fresh, 40 grey, 30 black, 2, 20lb. propane tanks. I think on our last trip (47 nights) of mixed weather, ranging from mid 90s to mid 20s and back, we filled one propane tank twice for sure and probably on fumes by the time we came home.

Tractor supply is a reliable place to get propane tanks filled but you should probably check to make sure they can fill your on board tank.

Body wipes are your friend. Our set up allows one quick shower each, in the 5-6 days and a hair washing or 2, at the outside spray port. If in a park and their shower houses are nice, we'll use them, to save water and tank space.

47 nights! That’s living the dream right there!
I have roughly two years until retirement God willing, and I hope to use these two years taking shorter trips while learning the rig.

I’m sure rough gravel or dirt roads are more of a challenge for the heavy E-450 than your truck/trailer combo to navigate without getting stuck or destroying something lol

I don’t have to worry about those updates that everyone else gets before me. I won’t get them at all. My E-450 is untethered from the mothership apparently.

I found the front top portion of the wedge bed that doesn’t move has a hinge. I don’t think my fresh water tank has a separate drain. It looks to me like the blue pex is the only outlet. 🤷🏻‍♂️
