I would just say that for your use case the 5100 sounds like the right application. I put the 5100s on my 2018 F150 and actually kind of hated them. Vast majority of my driving was commuting to work on shitty California roads. And they were so bumpy because of the regressive shock valving That the daily ride was terrible.

I tow a 8k lb boat go to the mountains a lot and kids are on ski team so they worked well for that used case but probably overkill for that 10% of the time that I needed it. On my new truck I just installed the eibach stage two and feel like that is a good middle of the road. Not quite as strong for offloading or towing as the Bilsteins, but much more reasonable driving over the patch marked and speed bumps everywhere California roads lol

Thanks for all the info and advice. I had the shocks in my Amazon basket while trying to make my final decision. Wife ordered them by accident when she needed some other things. I figured that was as good of a sign as anything. They’re on and going to be put to the test this weekend. Actually the easiest thing I’ve done to the truck so far. It was as easy as everyone said it would be.
On another note, are the OEM Fx4 shocks worth anything? I d be happy to get something for them if anyone else has had success actually selling them. Just seems like they may have some value, but I’m also ok with just throwing them in the dumpster at the same time.

this is a helpful thread. Sounds like marginal handling improvement without costing capacity. Ballpark to do front and back whats the cost range installed i should be expecting?
I searched around for a while for the set of 6112s in front and 5100's rear, they've been out of stock in most places but finally got ahold of the set from 4WP for $1200. Saw some deals on some sites for cheaper but out of stock. Hope this helps.

2WD, so swapped out the stock shocks for Bilstein 4600's. The difference is noticeable but not life changing. Less wallowing and boaty feel. No real difference in ride quality, i.e. not harsher or stiffer. Next step is probably lowering shackles for me.
