What do you lose it you do not activate the modem in an F150?
Looking to get a 2025 f150 powerboost lariat and I see you have to activate the modem.
I also understand that once the 90 day trail period is up on the navigation, the navigation does not work at all?
I will not be using bluecruise at all. I really do not need all of the remote functions.

So what happens if you do not activate the trucks modem?

you loose truck centered wifi internet
nav still works up to an dafter nav subscription runs out, just afterwards its not updated as much and a few features go dormaint
for some its a non issue as they use car play or the apple one to route navigation

i had it ON , then OFF in the 21 superduty
it did make a difference in loosing padora on long trips and i use built in nav so i lost real time traffic re-routing

i keep it on now as i like internet in the truck for my passenger
pandora, updated nav events etc with out having to use a car play etc

200 a year is not bad, but if that 200 cost you food, then its not a good deal
my 3 year is up on connected nav this april...i think i got a thing to renew for 80 , seems high at 80
but who knows what april will bring

i have had excellent service from the att modem
i wish we could choose to use verizon or what ever we have for cell service..

Don't you lose OTA updates without the modem?

I guess some folks might consider that a blessing, but I've never had a problem with any of the 17 OTA updates I've received to this date and have appreciated some of the tweaks they delivered.
_____________

I know that basic NAV will continue to work without the "Connected" subscription. No traffic info for sure; I'm not sure if search by business name or address will continue to work?

Even though my 'free trial' Connected Navigation doesn't expire until 6/5/2025, when logged into my Ford Owner's Account I can click 'renew' and see $80 for the annual renewal. Sure, I'll pay that, that expense isn't gonna affect my lifestyle and I enjoy the features it provides.
_____________

Even if you don't need / use the "Connected" navigation, what's gained by disabling the modem?

I never activated mine in 2022. I saw no reason to when the truck had no Navigation system or Sirius XM Radio. (We just don't have the chips to build it ) Funny Sirius XM continied to build their convertors. So I have to suffer with Android Auto and all the connection/disconnection problems and with it trying to connect to wife's phone instead of mine. If I happen to be anywhere near the truck and using the phone by itself, and then get in the truck, it takes a complete phone restart and truck restart to get it to work at all. A real "Rube-Goldberg" arrangement. That and Ford 's inability or refusal to address the rear axle bolts will probably result in this being my last Ford product.

That is my concern, on my 2018 when free trail ended the navigation still worked but with the old map unless you updated it. I read somewhere (large Internet grain of salt) that once the free trial runs out on the 2025, the map displays but not able to enter an address and get a route.

nothing happens. activating is simply you saying you want your truck to be a WiFi hotspot. instead of your phone. and its a whole new cell plan with ATT. otherwise the modem does everything it needs to for the nav, your Ford Pass app , nav , etc all work with no action required by you

now if you are talking about actually unplugging it so Ford doesnt know where you drive to. thats different. then those things wont work.

and the navigation update/renewal is a different subscription thru Ford.

I guess I'll have to let mine expire in June just to see first-hand what I lose that's of interest to me

You'll lose trailer-specific routing, weather radar overlays/weather data, and FordPass/remote start. If you use those things, you'll miss them. A lot. I've yet to find a decent app that does trailer-specific routing (most of them really suck badly). There is a radar app that works on CarPlay now though (MyRadar). And I use remote start often.

Thanks.

I don't use any of those features ..... heck, I may not be using anything that the "Connect" in my "Connected Navigation" provides! :ROFLMAO:

(that'd fit with my smartphone habits ..... I know I don't use 3/4 of what my iPhone 12 mini can deliver!)

This, the modem is always live. You're simply interacting with the ability for you to use it. The truck is already using the modem regardless of your access to it.

Incorrect. The separate plan for your vehicle to be a hotspot is optional and not required. If you choose to subscribe, you will need the modem active, of course.

But modem activation provides various features that may or may not require a subscription. See @RickBullotta's post above for some.

How do you activate the Modem? I have a 2022 Platinum and the Wireless Car Play won’t connect. The slider to enable Wireless Projection won’t turn on.
