Do I go with the 3.5 or will the 2.7 suffice for towing???

Yeah, I would have to order a different truck and hopefully the dealer (Laura Ford in Mo) would allow me to transfer my $500 deposit to the new build. Its not like they would be losing my business and they wouldn't have trouble selling my original build (probably for more money than I would have paid).

As for how often I would tow - I'm not really sure at this point. I don't have the ability to store the boat where I currently live, so I would possibly have to pay for a slip or some other storage solution. I would say several times a year, max, and only during the summer months.

My money says the 2.7 will be fine. I have a friend with a 2.7 who has a decent size camper, he has no issues.

I'm surprised your payload is that low. Im over 1800 with mine. I have 157 WB, no step or moonroof. I know those things add weight, didn't realize it was that severe.

The builds closest to mine are usually in the mid to low 1300lb range. I have even seen people with fully loaded powerboosts have payload stickers of around 1300lb.

And second, I test drove a lariat that was very similar to my build, except it was missing 20" wheels, moonroof, and spray in bedliner. It had a payload sticker of 1441 lb.

157 wheelbase, 3.5 with max tow. No tailgate step or moonroof. I should have got the step, but I didn't get the moonroof because I do tow a camper and will need to upsize in the next few years.

If you can amend your order, adding the 2.7 payload package will up your towing and payload capacity.

My 2.7 can tow 10,100lbs and has a payload of 1900lbs.

I don't think the payload package is available for Lariat trims, unfortunately.

I thought I've read boats generally have a lighter hitch weight vs a camping trailer with a similar weight. Which is why a lot of boats don't require a weight distributing hitch?

Yea, the pano-roof and tailgate features are pretty big hits to curb weight.

I have a fully loaded everything I could get on it, sans pano-roof intentionally, 6.5 Powerboost KingRanch. And I knew I was going to end up with ~1400, but I also no longer will be carrying my Yamaha ISEB 3000 inverter, or the supporting gas can/fuel. So technically it's a ~1600lb Payload truck for me.

Admittedly I have rounded up about 30lbs because I'm an optimist at heart

THANKS for all the replies!! I ended up going with a 3.5 with tow package. tons of power and can’t wait to tow with it after break in. What an upgrade from my 16!

Same set up with mine. I would have ordered the step but it was a lot find and I'm fine without.
