Yep
You don't think the 2.7 has the advantage at altitude?
Maybe they have fixed this since my 2016 3.5 EB KR, but at altitude the darn thing would overhead superfast IMO because of the turbo, so I don't see how it would have an advantage over a 5.0 at altitude.

I have the 3.5 being delivered sometime this week. I have friends with the 3.5 and 1 with the 2.7. We all have campers. The guy with the 2.7 has no issues whatsoever. I'm guessing his dry weight is right around 5,000.
I went 3.5, max tow because I plan on getting a bigger camper in a few years.
We had a little Roo 183 hybrid (4200 dry) when we ordered our truck. Once we made the decision to go 3.5 and max tow we started looking to upgrade trailer. ?. This weekend is one year since we took procession, 25,000km and very happy with the truck.

I have 310 miles on mine, did a short test haul with my 3800lb camper yesterday. The difference between my Tacoma and this truck is significant

For a light trailer the 2.7 engine is good enough. It may have problems on hot days at high elevation with a tow load but worst case is the engine shuts down and you need to take a break until it cools down.

A separate factor that is usually overlooked is the square footage of the trailer you are towing. This is covered in the Ford trailering guide. Pulling a 5,000 lbs travel trailer puts a lot more of a load on the truck then pulling a 5,000 utility trailer full of rocks. Add in the air drag that increases by 300% if the speed increases by 100% and the impact is even greater.

Most important though is the performance of the trailer brake controller which varies considerably. Often the after market ones are superior to the factory ones but I cannot say how good the one is that comes with the tow package on the 2022 Ford F-150 trucks.

I'm sure all three options will do well for anything under 5500 pounds. I have the 2.7EB with 3.73 gearing and tow a 3000 pound NuCamp Tab400 with absolutely zero problems from Ohio to Georgia or Ohio to Tennessee through Appalachia. I think my payload capacity on the truck is 1560 pounds, and usually have about 800 pounds of cargo including my wife and I. I really like the fuel economy of the truck. On long freeway trips at 65mph, I see about 27mpg (calculated). Day to day work driving I see about 23mpg, and on our last trip from Ohio to Jekyll Island GA, we saw 15.1mpg, which included running around the island WITHOUT the trailer for the 7 days there.

All that being said, the V8 sounds more "truck like." BUT at my age, I'm not tickled pink by the noise of a louder engine, nor do I foresee needing more truck than what I currently have. I instead sunk the extra cash into creature features like Katzkin heated/cooled seats, tinted windows, and a leather wrap on the steering wheel.

Drag is huge. I have 12k pound trailers that get better mileage than my 5k pound enclosed. (Towed with a 350 not 150...)

I'm personally starting to second guess my loaded Lariat 502a 2.7 order (latest build date of mid Sept) because my mom recently mentioned the idea of me inheriting my parents' 27' Regal 2665 Sport Cruiser, which according to the resources I've been able to find online has a 5351 pound dry weight. Add the trailer and tongue weight, I'm thinking that I won't have enough payload (much less tow capability) to handle it. I expect the truck to have around 1200lb of payload. This truck probably would have been perfect for my needs until my mom mentioned the boat and threw a monkey wrench in my plans.

I would only be towing the boat occasionally. Should I change my order to a 3.5EB or Powerboost?

Truck ordered with sunroof, unleashed, auto tailgate, trailer tow package, 20" wheels, 3.73 gearing.

Not trying to hijack this thread. I just didn't want to create a completely new towing thread with a similar premise.

3.5 EB hands down. I have a 24’ TT at 6k and it doesn’t break a sweat.

If you have a build date, I'm guessing you have a VIN?
Pretty sure if you have a VIN you can't change your order.
When you say occasionally, how occasionally? Like 1 or 2 times per year? and how far?

I'm surprised your payload is that low. Im over 1800 with mine. I have 157 WB, no step or moonroof. I know those things add weight, didn't realize it was that severe.

Wow. Your Lariat has a higher payload than my 302a.

No moonroof here either but, I do have the tailgate step. If I recall I think I'm 1,777 lbs. 157" WB too.

If you can amend your order, adding the 2.7 payload package will up your towing and payload capacity.

My 2.7 can tow 10,100lbs and has a payload of 1900lbs.

Yeah, I would have to order a different truck and hopefully the dealer (Laura Ford in Mo) would allow me to transfer my $500 deposit to the new build. Its not like they would be losing my business and they wouldn't have trouble selling my original build (probably for more money than I would have paid).

As for how often I would tow - I'm not really sure at this point. I don't have the ability to store the boat where I currently live, so I would possibly have to pay for a slip or some other storage solution. I would say several times a year, max, and only during the summer months. Distance would probably 100 miles each way.
