I recently purchased a timing set from a ebay seller that touted OEM parts.
When the parts came i see absolutely no part numbers or indicators that they are FoMoCo parts. There is not a single thing stamped on the cam phasers or any if the other parts.

FWIW many parts I buy from the dealer (or elsewhere) have nothing on the part itself, I must rely on the tag on the box or sealed plastic bag containing the part.

Just looking at parts on my truck, very few (if any?) have a number on them corresponding even partially to a Ford PN. Some electronic modules may be an exception :cautious:

Be very careful when purchasing parts from any source other than a Ford Dealer or Ford online parts center, such as Varsity Ford, Tasca Ford and others. There are Chinese knock off parts all over the internet and can be found on Amazon and Ebay all the time. The video linked below is 5 years old, but is still relevant today. In fact the Chinese have only gotten better at there craft since then at replicating there knock off parts and packaging to the point that there knock offs are almost undetectable to even the most knowledgeable people.

If you're talking about parts for your gen1 3.5, the camshaft phasers should have part numbers on them, the crank sprocket should have FoMoCo branding, the guides usually have a FoMoCo sticker on the wear surface that is a pain to remove, but not every guide will have it, and the primary tensioner should say FoMoCo on it.

Post pictures of the parts and the EBay link.

Cheap parts are never cheap…. I’ve been screwed so many times by trying to save a few bucks. I won’t do it again. Timing parts that’s straight up the dealer or a trusted online dealer.

Your right about that. My heads are at my trusted machine shop getting new intake valves because my chain stretched so far it advanced my timing by 30dg.
I trust my guy at the shop. He is supplying me with everything I need to put my engine back together. He has a excellent reputation.
My problem last time was i bought the timing kit from rock auto and it was supposed to be from Cloyes. They were junk and rock auto didn't help. They support Chinese vendors and don't care if the vendors are selling knock offs.

FYI - Cloyes parts are junk, too. Use only OEM on a timing chain or valve job.

I’m back when I was messing with small block Chevys, you couldn’t get a better double roller timing chain than Coyles. But, it was like 35 to 40 years ago.

A machinist wants told me, “buy once, cry once”. Apparently, I’m not a smart guy, it took me quite a while to take that to heart, but with parts that are a major pain in the butt to replace it does seem to make sense to me.

Yeah, I’ve heard a few people say that as well. It sucks that the well respected company goes to shit decades later kinda like Timken bearings.

The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price.
