I was hoping someone could help me out. Im working on installing the power folding mirror harness jumper on my f150 and I cant get past the first step with is depinning a wire from the gray connector for the window switches and a black connector the goes into the door module (photos attached). Can someone point me in the right direction? I dont want to destroy anything out of frustration lol. Thanks in advance!

I have an assortment of pin tools so I'm one step in the right direction. I just don't know which one to use or how. Sorry if I sound ignorant. I just don't want to destroy anything.

Im not sure which one is needed. I only have a GM pin tool so I can’t check for you.

Its not that hard. Get a kit that will have pinning and depinning tools. About 30 bucks. A little research will tell you which pin does what. Then its simply about choosing the right size. It should barley fit in the rear hole over the wire if its a rear pin, which I would take an educated guess to say that is.

Depinning/repinning is simple as pie with very little practice. What I would recommend, however, with you just starting out, is getting some disposable PLASTIC depinning kits so you dont damage the insulation on the wire. Dont worry if you break 5 of them on one pin, they are designed to be weaker than your electronic connector setups.

My "recycled paper clip" I flattened a bit with a hydraulic crimp and sharpened has de-pinned just about everything in the truck w/ out issue. You posted pics with the plastic pin locks still on, you're not depinning any connector with the lock on.

As mentioned above, each connector has a lock. It's purpose is to prevent what you're trying to do. You need to remove the lock in the connector first and then use your depinning tool. Each lock is a little different but it's plastic and a different color than the connector body usually. It comes off somehow. Be very careful, they break easily.

Anyone have a picture or video they recommended showing this concept? It'll be worth 1000 words they say...

This is not exactly what you are trying to do but it illustrates the concept, front release. Some are rear.

This one is side removal. Purple pieces at half way mark:

Longer more comprehensive video specific to Ford:

Remove the retention clip entirely. Try grabbing the connector by placing your hand up and wrapping your little finger around it into your palm while you use your thumb and index to wiggle the target wire back and forth while you're going for the little plastic retention portion. Typically goes wiggle wiggle free.

This worked, once I was able to fully remove the retention clip, I was able to see how the ins were held in. I was able to work in a paperclip from the front and pull the wire out the back of the connector. Install is now finished. Thank you for the help!
