I took my truck in for an oil change/tire rotation (made appointment within warranty range) and asked the service writer to take a look at some issues I was having, including paint peeling in my grille (21 STX), cup holder tensioners that no longer work, my sunglasses holder that won’t stay up when it is cold out (less than 45 degrees). The service writer told me “we’re at least 3 weeks out, you need to make an appointment” to which I replied “you guys can’t even look at it? I mentioned it on the phone” and his response was “no, lol lol change guys only do oil changes, they can’t even look at it. You need to make an appointment”. So, by the time I was able to get an appointment scheduled between work and the holidays, my mileage warranty had expired since I’m around 39,000 miles now. I took the truck in Tuesday, and the service manager told me “a day past warranty is a day past warranty” and said I could leave the truck at the shop and they would look into the cupholders, but I would need to sign for a half hour of labor for the parts counter person to look up the parts for the cup holder. As for the paint that’s peeling on a truck that’s less than 2 years old, they said I could go to the body shop but since I was past 36,000 they couldn’t touch it, even though they refused to look at it when I asked for it to be addressed earlier, and now are refusing to do anything about it. I’ve had nothing but issues with this dealership, and now I have a less than 2 year old truck with paint failure and they are refusing to do anything about it. I reached out to their customer service team yesterday, and have received only generic responses and no action whatsoever after they said they were going to have the service manager contact me. I’ve had nothing but bad experiences at this dealer whenever I’ve brought any issues to their attention. Not to mention when they had my truck for 7 weeks this spring for a wheel bearing, then we’re magically able to get the parts after I posted here about a bad experience…. Strange how it took me putting it out on the internet that I was receiving bad service, to receive any service at all. I love the truck but but I'm not going to keep it if I have to drive 40+ minutes to find good service, when the two dealerships closest to me (5 and 10 minutes, 2 locations for one dealership) have been terrible to deal with. Has anyone else had issues with paint peeling, or cheap plastic interior parts just failing to function? Really disappointed for a less than 2 year old truck with 70% freeway miles.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I don't think any dealer would be helpful anywhere and not just Ford dealers, all brands if you had a Honda, BMW, or Lambo being out of warranty. Your only hope is reaching out to Ford and seeing if they'll offer any goodwill help due to dealers being backed up for weeks to get service. But you are 3k over and they were only three weeks for an appt.

Now I don't know if Ford does goodwill help, but Subaru does and they've helped me in the past when out of warranty with good discounts on repairs. Ymmv.

I do drive a lot, and because of scheduling I couldn’t get in for about 6 weeks so I do take responsibility for that. But at the same time, they refused to document it when it was in warranty, so what am I supposed to do, not drive for 3-6 weeks while I wait? This same service writer also never called me to tell me my truck was done with its scheduled oil change, I dropped it off at 7am and had to get a ride to the dealer to ask for it back 20 minutes before closing, because after several phone calls and texts to his cell and to the main office, nobody could tell me the status, and he never returned correspondence. It is beyond infuriating that I couldn’t even get a call back, after calls, texts, and messages left. Ford will likely say that it’s out of warranty and refuse to address it, but that’s some shady shit if you ask me. Especially in a less than 2 year old truck with paint issues.

What they SHOULD have done, was started a repair order with your concerns listed and documented at the time you mentioned it. Along with the date and miles. That way, if you roll over miles, it was still documented. As long as you were under 36,000 miles at the time. We do this all the time at my dealership.

Agreed. I had a transmission issue. My dealer's service advisor wrote it up at the then existing mileage. Thus when I did get it in, regardless of the existing mileage, the issue was documented as within the appropriate mileage requirement. Your servce advisor either was poorly trained or he was scamming you. I believe you need to move your patronage to another, and more reliable, dealership.

my brother gets great service at his dealership, but that is over 2 hours away, one way. Not exactly a hop-skip and a jump away. Even the next closest dealer to me, when I called, was almost bragging about how they “have 200 vehicles on a waiting list, looking at 3-4 weeks out and no guarantees”. I get that times are different now, but it’s turned me off of Ford big time, and I’ve been a lifelong Ford owner

You're kinda SOL here...not sure why you delayed but they are all relatively inexpensive fixes that you can do on your own.

That is why I always take good notes, who I spoke with, date/time, etc. I am over the warranty as well, but I got a deal on an issue with the skid plate they waived the installation and they matched the Tasca price for the part. Same part number, same part. If you have some notes that you have from conversations, that they knew you had problems, you could always talk to the general manager of the dealer or go up the food chain. I owned a Toyota and had to go up to the regional manager to get things fixed properly.

I know your situation is way different. I bought my truck five hours away from where I lived and I had to nurture a relationship with a dealer to get the same service as if I bought the truck there.

I'm kind of puzzled why you waited to address these issues.

they didn’t become apparent until maybe 1,000 miles before the oil change when I brought it up…. If they had come up earlier I would have brought them up earlier. I figured They would document it when I brought it up to them, but was sorely mistaken and couldn’t get in again for another 6 weeks

They should have opened a ticket before the warranty ran out and closed it after the work was done. The cup holder is cheap. You can swap it out yourself. I wouldn’t pay anyone in the parts department to look up the part number. You can go to parts yourself and they’ll look it up for free.

I know times have changed, but when I had my 1997 Dodge Ram, the rear end failed 1000 miles out of warranty and dodge and the dealership repaired it under customer goodwill. It did cost me $100 out of pocket. Maybe your local dealer will be more sympathetic , but at 39000 miles, you are quite a ways over. Good luck.
