When starting the truck for the first time in the morning, I’d shift into “R”, hear a loud chirp, then the money light would come on as well as the pre-collision assist not available, service advance trac and check brake system warnings. Used my scanner, no codes. Truck drives perfectly fine. Brought it into the dealer. They concurred no codes but said the truck was trying to perform Over the Air updates but is failing remotely so that caused the ABS module and PCM to show the warnings on the dash.
So the dealer will be manually updating the 22 updates queued. Next day dealer calls and says one of the updates corrupted the PCM and now it will not reprogram and will not recognize the Diablo tuner for the supercharger.

Dealer will try to “fix” the PCM but if not, will replace. This is all under warranty.

My concern is that the truck will not run the same and this may be the beginning of more issues If the PCM is replaced. Also, when I asked him if the Carfax will show replacement PCM, he couldn’t answer. I would think this has to affect value if it shows up on Carfax.

It’s just a component. It’s not gonna affect any value. It’s not gonna affect the way. Your truck runs our operates. It would be the same as changing a brake caliper.

You drastically overthinking this……

No one that buys a truck with an aftermarket supercharger will care if the PCM has been replaced. If your carfax showed that the PCM had been replaced 5 times, that would be concerning, but there's way more danger in having a shop replace spark plugs or transmission fluid. The PCM is easily accessible and nothing to worry about.

Just make sure that your truck has the correct calibration installed when it leaves the dealer. If they're having issues with an update corrupting the PCM, I would be extra cautious in making sure they don't return your truck with a stock tune file.

OK I get that it‘s a replaceable component, but it is essentially a computer that controls the truck. Not to mention I’m relying on a tech who may have effed it up to begin with and now has to re-program it correctly with the tune for the Whipple. I also thought the PCM was a major repair, so thank you guys for clarifying that, probably won’t show on a Carfax, maybe just as warranty service.

yeah, I think most of all of us understand your concerns. As far as Carfax stuff seems like most of the time only about half that crap even makes it to that worthless program anyway.

But yes, if it does make it there, for some stupid reason,it’s just gonna show as a warranty replacement

Was this the Whipple the ford unit that maintains the factory warranty?

I would never trust Carnac’s for anything. They put on my report that my trucks drivers door had been in an accident when in fact my trailer has a short tongue and while backing up I turned to sharp and crush the cheap bumper right rear. Bumper was replaced. Never damaged driver door. I bought Mercedes S550 and the carfax showed as never being in an accident. The entire drivers side was wiped out before I bought the car and it never showed on the carfax as being repaired. CARFAX IS MOT TO BE TRUSTED EITH ANYTHING.. There should be a class action suit against there reporting.

Good point, but I believe CARFAX ownership and registration dates would always be accurate and that itself has value. Damage reporting issues aside, a prudent buyer still would want to see this information; I know I do.

Personally i dont think the tech messed up. Unfortunately with modern vehicles and all of the bs running in the background errors happen. Typically they are an easy fix with IDS.

So you would want to know info that is not correct when buying a car? What about info on your car that is in correct and it affects the value of the car your trying to sell.
Do you think carfax is going to change that info for you. READ THEIR FINE PRINT. Try suing them, see where they are based. Their cost me thousands of dollars. Why would I care about the registration date or when the car was sold. I can get that info anywhere
