i'm about to install a dash cam that has parking mode. VIOFO A139 Pro to be exact. my understanding is in order to have parking mode enable after car shuts down, it has to hardwired to the always-on fuse box, is this correct? then what about the battery drainage, if i don't turn on the parking mode, then it won't use the battery while truck is off? do Powerboost hybrid models have any type of advantages in that regard?

my camera is dongled via the obd port and it will record until battery is below IIRC 10 volts, maybe 11

thinkware camera
it senses movement , then goes back to sleep

is the cutoff voltage build-in or you can set yourself? if you turn the parking mode off completely then it won't draw any power from truck's battery correct?

the cut off voltage is set within the dash cam software to SAVE battery :)
at home i have to turn it off as the sun screens moving in the wind keep it going and going
but i leave the YOU BUMPED me mode all the time.
yes you can turn everything OFF , so after 5 or so minutes it plays a tune and shuts down

i take you hardwired to the fuse box correct? if you leave the YOU BUMPED me mode all the time, it will only drain battery to the set voltage then it turns off?

With the Viofo you need a hard wiring kit (easiest is to buy the compatible Viofo one). It does not have the battery cutoff built into the camera but instead the hard wiring kit has a voltage selection switch on it. I can't remember if the Viofo has the accessory wire on the hard wiring kit or not, it can use this to know when the truck has shut off.

Different cameras handle this differently, some have the 3 wire hard wiring kit included, some use gps to know when it is parked.

Personally I don't want to affect the battery in my PB and I want longer parking times so I'm going to run mine off a small solar generator pack using a tiny 12v mini transfer switch.

it is powered via a daisy chain wire harness that pluggs right into the obd port. so it picks up start, shut down, etc and yes if bumped it records for around 2 minutes and then shuts off , until it needs to repeat.
echo master harness, i think most everyone has them, i just got mine at thinkware
and many use power off the rear view mirror to save wire routing issues

I have the exact setup you are looking at - Viofo a139 Pro. I used their own hardwire harness and tapped into an always live fuse and an ignition only live fuse. Once you have that set you can go into the cam and set parking mode on and the time frame for it to run. 4 cutoff voltage settings on the harness 12.4, 12.2, 12, and 11.8. I first set it at 12.4 and then at 12.2 but neither worked more than half an hour. I finally got everything to work properly at 12volt setting. Although I’ve only got the parking mode set for 2 hrs in the cam itself I found that there is so much still going on with the PB for nearly an hour after shutdown the draw is enough that battery under that normal truck systems load registers below even 12.2 volts. Then the dashcam’s hardwire (doing its job) cuts power to dash cam. In reality though once the truck’s own systems shut down the load is significantly reduced however by then the dash cam harness has already shut off and they don’t power up again till next key cycle. As a result I have to set voltage threshold at 12 and this has worked fine since. The battery never actually gets that low.

I installed the Viofo A139 Pro today. Have a few questions.
1. The VIOFO mobile app does not display camer live video even when connected to cameras Wi-Fi. All I see is a black screen

2. right now I can only access the recorded media on SD card, or modify the settings when I sit in the car, turn off the recording on camera and connect my phone to cameras Wi-Fi. Is there a quicker easier way to access these camera features remotely?

that seems to be the same issue with my thinkware
it has to upload the video to the server so you can see it remotely or something
for me i have never been able to see what the camera sees except by taking out the usb stick memory and playing it on the computer
trucks wifi shuts off when truck powers down, and my camera will not connect to my house wifi unless....truck is on, but then it still does not send out data.
will be watching to see what you figure out

Connect to Viofo A139 Pro via Wi-Fi.
Using iPhone 14 Pro and Pixel 7.
I can see live video, while recording and not recording.
I have the latest app on both phones and the latest firmware on the A139 Pro (V1.1_0321).
