Ford announced they were streamlining the options/standard equipment on all 2024's. This is, in part, due to the lack of parts available to all manufactures, along with many other factors. In 2021, I ordered my Platinum in such a way (accidentally, I assure you) that it was built and in my driveway in around 90 days, so I somehow missed the initial cut backs.

As there is a refresh coming, I went in today and combed through the build tool to see what was what. I did not like what I saw. It is my opinion that they have cut back too much. What I like about my current truck is just not available anymore, nor are the alternatives I would consider, so I will just keep rolling in my current model. I am hopeful that by 2025, Ford will be able to open up the pipeline a little bit more and offer more options at every level.

This change coincided with ford going from something like 2,000 possible wiring configurations across F150s down to 20. I don't see them going backwards from here. Each part number in the system costs about $10k, not to mention countless headaches if they can't source a few of them. It breaks all sorts of things down the line. Covid showed them what they refused to acknowledge earlier and made a shift that was overdue.

As such don't expect it to change without it impacting sales to warrant going back to a more complex and expensive system. Some of these savings are seen by customers. Some of the 24s are coming in cheaper than previous years.

In my opinion we are not living in a time where predictions can be accompanied with meaningful confidence.

But we can certainly ponder. Lol
This is 10000% accurate.
Its so darn hard to predict anything anymore. We have wars going on , inflation like we have never seen , country is divided , strikes and much more.

I was jazzed to order a '24, but was also really confounded by the lack of options. I understand the interior being streamlined, but the lack of color/wheel/body color options seem archaic.

The hitch / tow package / tow tech package being rolled into one was a clear "DUH" move. A move that seems to have shaved $1500 off of the combined price.

Making bluecruise hardware standard from XLT up was another duh move, saving $2k roughly by not forcing the 3 years of software up front (also removed some upcharges associated with it). A move that will change IMO due to superior hands-free driving systems that cost less and have not continued yearly fee attached -- especially when that system taps into those sensors ford didn't charge you for.

Nothing to do with parts availability.

Everything to do with squeezing the last bit of profit out of this vehicle by forcing consumers to pay for packages they otherwise wouldn't buy if standalone options were available.

This is where a lot of the savings come in on the 2024s that are seeing their builds discounted from prior years. If you had Max Tow and Tow Tech, etc., many of the builds have this standard now. If you didn't have Max Tow, that is some savings you don't see in 2024 because you didn't have it on your build.

Pretty soon itll be a like so many other companies that don't really allow custom ordering. That was the beauty of Ford over the others. Customization was so good. Ill betcha if the F series loses the top sales spot, we'll have to go back. Hopefully we get the leadership changes required before we get there.

The deletes I had to tolerate would not have bothered me so much if there had been an offer to install those options at a reasonable price once the parts were available, or if the "discount" accurately reflected the true price! As it is, I was screwed on both ends of this "deal."

Correct. I would have thought with relative ease they could have added the 2.7 to the hybrid option list for those that want even more economy. I guess they put all their resources into that amazing tailgate. ?

Who knows why the rumored expansion on Hybrid didn't get any reveal?

I personally think there's a storm brewing in the automotive industry and they all pretty much know it, but just aren't sure what the best approach is to address it. It takes years to bring a product to the market. Far longer than most can imagine. The 2024 F150 refresh that we have only recently gotten our first official glance of was being mocked up and begging testing probably BEFORE we purchased our first Gen14 F150 in 2021?

I do think there's a LOT of pressure for Hybrid drivetrains, good or bad, to meet the insane CAFE escalation that is currently being imposed. The wildly overestimated EV demand isn't going to even put a dent in it.

An old man's speculation. Clouded by his enamoration with the Powerboost.
