Does anyone have any experience with this code? I haven't noticed anything specific in the operation of the HVAC system but this code has been getting set in the truck for a while. I've found some general information on it but nothing specific for 21+ models. Right now I'm trying to figure out where that motor is and how I would get to it to at least inspect it, though at least on older models it sound pretty challenging to access.

Yep. I started seeing it a couple of months ago after I had used FDRS to update the HVAC module. I thought that there might be a mismatch between the new programming and the old learned values so I used FORScan to reboot the HVAC module. The DTC, at least for a couple of weeks now, has gone away. If you don’t have FORScan, you can also try to reboot the HVAC module by pulling BCM Fuse 12 for a couple of minutes, replacing, and then starting the truck in accessory mode for a couple of minutes more. Pulling the fuse would be my second choice to using FORScan because you’ll also cut power to the GWM. But it should work equally well to rebooting the HVAC module.

I’d try the reboot before hunting down the recirculating damper motor. It’s still in the same place—under the dash up and to the left of the box that holds the cabin air filter—and it is very hard to access without dismantling the dash. Laying eyes on it won’t yield much useful information.

I had that code and the AC wasn't working very well this past summer. I ended up replacing it which solved the problem. You have to take out the upper glove box, air bag, the heater controls, screen, defrost vent cover, and center speaker cover, then the rh piece of the dash or remove the dash as an assembly like the manual says to do.

I'll give it a shot, though I believe the code has come back after having the battery completely disconnected which I imagine is the same thing as a reboot.

If that doesn't work I guess I'll have to look into replacing it. Taking apart the whole dash doesn't sound fun though.

Thanks for the responses.

That’s not encouraging. I will continue to keep an eye on mine.

There is one final thing worth trying before ripping out the dash. There is a software update for the HVAC module for your truck. I’d try to get that module updated, followed by a full reboot/reset, before more extreme remedies. I am not all that optimistic, for you or for me, after hearing you already essentially rebooted the module but it’s a big job to rip open the dash and you always run the risk of damage (cosmetic or worse). I’d try everything else first, even if the chances of success are slim.

Anybody successfully sort this out? My 2021, the air inlet door is stuck on recirculation - always drawing inside air rather than outside air. This will cause the windows to fog up in cold weather. With the glove box removed, you can see the inlet door above the cabin filter.

I replaced the recirc motor in mine and it fixed it.

I used FORScan to run a self-test on the HVAC module. The test cycled the damper actuators and varied the fan speed. The DTC for the recirc damper actuator hasn’t come back since. It’s been about two months.

Okay, just used Forscan to run self test and reboot. The door is working fine now and codes are cleared. More to follow....

Thanks!

After running the HVAC test in FORScan, I am still getting code B1083. I have been getting this code on my 2021 for as long as I can remember.

Is there a way to test and verify the damper motor isn't working? When I blast the air and hit the recirculation button, I don't hear any changes in airflow. Not sure if there is anything else I can do.

I'm trying to decide if it's worth replacing myself or have the dealer do it. I have the Premiumcare extended warranty, so this should be covered. Not sure I want the dealer to tear apart my dash though.

If you want to verify operation, you can snake a borescope into the duct above the cabin air filter and see if the damper moves. That’s what my dealer did to confirm that the actuator wasn’t working properly.

After a year of running self tests and resets on the HVAC module, with each test clearing the codes for briefer and briefer intervals, I ended up having the dealer replace the actuator under the extended warranty. It’s a $1000 job if not covered.

Brilliant, and I do have a borescope that should work great for this. Thank you!

Anyone remember the ford part number for this actuator?
