Clunky 10R80- do i just live with it?

I'm experiencing similar issues to those described in the thread on my '24 5.0 Lariat (even with the supposedly "updated" CDF drum). 7,000 miles on the clock right now.

Just got the truck back from my first oil change. I had them check out the transmission as well due to these issues. Tech was unable to reproduce the issues (rough shifting at low speeds usually when coming to a stop, audible "clunk" shifting between gears when holding a constant speed sometimes as well). Fluid level was supposedly good, no codes, etc.

The service advisor quite literally told me this is "just how the 10 speeds are." I'm not buying that, so I'll be monitoring these type of threads to see what the best course is.

It's definitely not fixed on the new trucks though, lol.

Yeah I really don't know. Everyone says it's just how the transmissions are. Maybe I've become too sensitive, but I could swear it wasn't like this when the truck was new. And the fact I never get these sort of clunky downshifts in sport mode.. I really don't know man lol. I'm almost reluctant to bring in the truck again next week. I don't want them to tear into the trans if there isn't actually something wrong. I feel like my issue isn't with the CDF drum though because my issues seem to be a lot more intermittent and inconsistent than what people typically report for a CDF drum that is sliding around.

My rough shifting was intermittent. Sometimes it was barely noticeable and occasionally it was very noticeable.

They had my truck for about 12 days. There is only one transmission tech at the dealership I went to. Fortunately, they were able to provide a loaner.

The repair seems to have worked. There was a sticking valve in the control body. It shifts smooth now.

To the OP, I think I'm having slightly similar issues. Shifting from 1-3 is sometimes clunky, but I think that's just the EV to fuel mode. But, i have the most inconsistent and aggravating downshifting of any vehicle I've ever driven. About 80%of the time I feel every downshift while breaking, and from 3-1 it's almost like the brakes slam and jolt to a stop. Some days it butter, most days it crap. Took it to the dealership once and they "couldn't duplicate the issue". But, I'm planning on taking it again soon since I have a handful of other annoying issues I need them to address, and the braking will be on the list again.

It might be just my luck, but for whatever reason the weird clunks completely disappeared yesterday and this morning as well. My appointment is on Wednesday. Knowing my luck it won't happen on Wednesday, and then it'll happen right after. I really don't know lol. Maybe it takes exactly this long to learn after a reset?? It's so confusing how this learning process happens.

Yeah man def get in and ride with a tech if you can. Def tell them you’re worried about that CDF drum bushing problem. I think yours should have the revised drum but I saw a new TSB for the shaft in the drum. The TSB about it basically says if they do a relearn on the TCM and the problem isn’t solved one of the next steps is they should do a tear down to inspect. I’m glad I was adamant about it because he problem was there

I'm almost on the verge of just rather living with the occasional clunk rather than having them tear down anything further than dropping the pan and checking the fluid. My main concern is that since my symptoms are pretty mild and intermittent, it could just be how I drive rather than something mechanical that's wrong, and tearing into the trans itself might not turn out anything but cause damage in itself by introducing debris, etc. But we will see on Wednesday, I guess. Did you receive any new information from the dealer? Still dealing with mine, will likely make them change the fluid when I take it in for an oil change next.

Sorry I forgot to update this. They told me I had to wait a bit longer for the learning. So far at the moment I'm at about 3k miles since the adaptations were reset, and I will admit most of the clunks are gone. I still get the occasional clunk randomly but the frequency is much less and when it does happen it's less audible. Something is working, that I know.
