I have been working on a spreadsheet to compare Forscan backup files for changes. Over the years I have made a few along with changes Ford made along the way.

While looking through Livnitup‘s spreadsheet I noticed the type of rear speaker (Rear Satellite Speakers - 727-01-01 position 5) can be changed. The stock setting for a standard seven speaker XLT system is a full range speaker, “SO Non-Tweeter Only). I have replaced the rears with two-ways and will test changing the setting to “SO Speaker and Tweeter”. I don’t know if this applies to two-ways or if it refers to a speaker with separate tweeter like the fronts.

Anyone else do this?

I have always assumed that speaker and tweeter would be the correct setting for coax rear speakers, but I could be wrong.

That’s my assumption too but the fronts were full range with the separate tweeter in the A-pillar. I’ll report back with results.

Nice find! I replaced the rear door speakers on my truck with components. I never noticed there was a setting in the ACM for this.

Reporting back. I made the Forscan change and now the two-way speakers actually sound good. Not that is will make a difference to the driver, but the back seaters will like it.

Yup, however, it mainly applies to non B&O trucks, since the ACM is upstream of the DSP for most of the B&O speakers.

I got a ton of extra sound by going to the flat EQ.

Give the flat EQ a shot if you haven't already - if don't have an aftermarket amp, it makes a big difference.

That would correct. But us lowly XLT owners have to make do. ?

One thing I have noticed, is that changing the output type of 1 speaker, sometimes affects the output of all the other speakers as well.

In some cases more sound range to a speaker actually muddies everything else, but it's best to try a bunch of configurations to see what you like.

I'll be doing the same tonight.

Correct, but the rear door speakers are powered by the ACM and not the DSP which is why this caught my attention. By flat setting, are you referring to this? If you are, mine truck is showing a 0 there already from factory. Unless the data on the motorcraft site is wrong. I'll check what FORScan shows later tonight when I get home from work and plug in.

Yup. 0 is flat. Makes sense as the B&O DSP probably makes best use of the full range for the speakers it handles. Non B&O trucks came with a 1 or a 2.

Let us know what sounds good on the rears. There is full range, tweeter only and non-tweeter only IIRC.

This is what the spreadsheet shows, and according to the online data, I have a 1 there now. I'm going to try a 2 to see what happens. If I hadn't left my laptop at home, I'd be in my truck doing it right now. lol

Flat, unlike the earth (sorry Flat Earthers) on B&O 8-Speaker MY23.

Just made the change. I tried playing a few songs, and I didn't hear any clipping coming from the rear tweeters at high volume, but I have to test it a bit more when I go out for a drive. My neighbors don't seem to enjoy my 12" subs as much as I do.

Ok, I just checked the workshop manual: if ACM DTCs line up with ACM asbuilt, then speakers 1 and 2 are right and left rear door speakers respectively. Speaker 3 is right A-pillar, so it would make sense that speaker 3 SO is tweeter only in 18 speaker b&o. This tallies with my 18 sp. b&o where I have 2 and B for speakers 1 and 2 respectively (speaker + tweeter as it's a coaxial) ?‍♂

Also it's B for speaker 2 as that setting also manages the centre speaker driven by the ACM. It's "no speaker" because the centre speaker on 18 sp. b&o is driven by the DSP, speaker 8.

I now show this code after making the ACM change. However, I tried playing two songs at full volume that I know would make the rear aftermarket tweeters clip before and I heard no clipping. So far, I have to say this DID improve sound quality at high volume, but I will continue to test and see if I find a song that makes it clip.

I've had this code for a while but for the center speaker after changing its output. Harmless afaik. The speaker is securely wired and still makes the right noises.

Yea, I'm not worried about it. I tell people all the time: Codes are not problems.....only problems are problems. lol
