When my current OEM under hood battery needs replacing, should the the rear seat battery be replaced at the same time? Or replace it on it's own schedule?

After 2+ years my 2022 OEM PB battery was giving me issues. I swapped it for a Walmart Platinum Everstart H7 and switched the aux battery to the larger aux AGM O'Rielly battery and have not had any issues since then.

The larger aux battery does not perfectly fit without some dremel modification to the holder but I never did that and just have it sitting there in the holder. I used some black duct tape to keep the lid in place and it has worked great.

I do not know if I needed to switch both at the same time, probably not, but I did it anyway. Your OCD level may have a say in this. :) I reset the system so both batteries are synced (new) and no issues for almost a year now. Good luck.

I would definitely recommend upgrading.

Whether you want to do a larger AGM in the stock location like @Tank did several years ago, or you could add even more capacity with a setup like @HammaMan did with LFP in the stock location or parallel to the OEM battery.

plenty of info on each of these options if you want to search the forum.

I haven't had an ounce of trouble from either batteru (knock on wood). I'm just anticipating the day when I do. When that day happens, should I replace both, even if only one is giving me trouble.

Totally up to you. There are so many issues than can pop up from low voltage in either battery. To me it is just cheap insurance. I had one low voltage warning during a cold snap last winter, so I added a lithium iron phosphate battery, parallel to my OEM aux battery. It has worked awesome ever since. Resting voltage increased from 12.5 to 13.2 with no warnings or issues since.

My larger auxiliary battery might actually be propping up my original OEM starting battery. I plan to replace my starting battery before this winter since it is over four years old already.

Typically, batteries wired in parallel are replaced together, because the weak one, can drain and potentially damage the strong one.

Its more of a logical suggestion, than requirement though.

Having worked with AGM batteries in my career regularly, I can tell you the life of an AGM battery is between 3 to 5 years. Because the F150 is notorious for under charging the main battery, it sits in a state of discharge too long in which sulfation takes place.. Because the auxiliary battery charges in parallel with the main battery in all likelihood it’s been undercharged as well and it makes sense to replace both where one is bad most likely both are bad. I replaced both and I will trickle charge my batteries in the garage as a matter of regularity just to keep that charging level above 75 or 80% or more, which helps to abate sulfation.
